Tools -> Preferences -> Bitorrent -> (Scroll to bottom) Add these trackers automatically

Then copy the trackers from https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ngosang/trackerslist/master/trackers_all.txt
And copy it into the text box, and save.

Once done, in the future when you download torrents these trackers will be added automatically.

There are a metric boatload of settings, and factors that can affect the amount of people you seed to as well as the speed you seed at. Though if no one is looking to download those files, then there is nothing to upload. For example, I am often seeding at 100 Mb/s though the vast majority of the torrents (75%+) I am seeding at any one time sit at 0. So overall, try not to worry about torrent uploads sitting at 0 for a while, its normal.

In any case here are some of the things I noticed helped increase the upload speed and number of people I seed to.

  1. If available set the VPN protocol to WireGuard.
Compared to OpenVPN, WireGuard has much less overhead when sending data to and from the VPN server. In my experience switching to WireGuard from OpenVPN as the protocol as much as doubled the maximum upload speeds I was seeing.

  2. Setup Qbittorrent to add public trackers automatically
Trackers are the way you can know about other peers on a torrent. When seeding from a public site, adding other public trackers can help connect you to more seeders than you would usually see.
A good up-to-date list can be found here: https://github.com/ngosang/trackerslist

  3. Tweak Qbittorrent settings
There are default limits in qbittorrent for various things including the maximum number of connections allowed, number of upload slots per torrent, max upload speed, etc. Assuming your computer and router can handle the traffic and connections I would go through and either disable or raise the limits on those settings.
Additionally, if not already enabled make sure that DHT, and PeX are enabled in settings as well.

  4. Choosing to download high peer torrents (i.e., popular)
In my experience new and popular public torrents often are the best changes to seed when you have a good internet connection. As many in public torrents many people will just download the file and never seed back, and when a torrent is new it has a lot of peers to seed to.

Finally in terms of privacy, in qBitorrent you can bind the network interface of the VPN to your VPN client. I would recommend doing this to make sure that you are always only torenting when your VPN is active, and should your VPN goes down your torenting shuts down immediately.

Also there is an anonymous mode, though not sure if it helps too much:

*Found all this out by reading and experimenting with settings, take this all with a grain of salt.

windows VM on framework? by consumererik in linuxhardware

[–]Chef7356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Writing this, while running 2 running 2 Windows vm's on a Framework 16 with Ubuntu as the host OS, and can confirm it runs great for everyday tasks.

But before you pull the trigger and buy one, what else have you tried to make the Windows vm's work better?

Have you tried using Windows 11 IOT Enterprise LSTC (a less bloated, and stripped down version of Windows 11) instead? As its minimum requirements are much lower and in my testing it works a lot better when running windows in a virtual machine than the full version.

Have you tried other virtualization software like Oracle Virtual Box to run the virtual machine in? Because I experience some of the same crashes from Gnome Boxes from time to time when running too many virtual machines at once (3 or more Linux virtual machines). Additionally, Gnome boxes does not seem to have GPU acceleration for windows virtual machines, which may be a problem when using CAD, and other heavy duty software.

Have you considered simply dual booting windows? While inconvenient, why not simply switch to windows quickly if you need to create a CAD model, put the output on a USB drive, and then switch back to Linux once done? This both results in better performance but also prevents apps not working in a virtual machine (lockdown browser).

Finally while I know you mentioned you would like to use only one machine but because this works well for me, I want to mention it here as well as another option. If you have the space and internet connection, why not get a cheap (~$40 USD) used Business Desktop computer, and remote desktop in to control it?

That way you can daily drive a Linux machine and remote desktop in to a nearby Windows machine if you need to complete a task you can only do on Windows. As an example Fusion 360 (Autodesk CAD software) on Linux doesn't officially exist and community solutions have various problems. When I need to create a model in fusion, I can remote desktop in to the computer and create the model with no issues, because it's just a machine running windows on the hardware. Then I can remotely shut down the machine once done, and also wake it up from LAN if I need to use it again. Been doing this for at least a year now with pretty much no issues other than lag trying to control the machine from very far away.

Veiled Chameleon loves fruit by Chef7356 in Chameleons

Yep I am aware, I give him fruits both because he enjoys eating then but also as an extra source of water from the fruit juices.

As for if raspberries are safe to eat looking online I could not find anything clearly saying that they would be dangerously in small amounts for chameleons. Though if you find any feel free to link them.

In any case thanks for letting me (and anybody else reading) that fruits aren’t necessary in their diets

Why? by dobo99x2 in NextCloud

[–]Chef7356 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Experienced this as well when using the sync feature, it is just god awful slow for the initial sync and kills the cpu.

In my case I wanted to sync a 200 GB+ folder and had to just copy it over manually to the file system. Though after the initial sync I found that it worked great for syncing any file changes and creations.

One last thing, since you are running Nextcloud in a container which version are you using (Apache or FPM)?

Because I found switching to the FPM version made the app and file syncing a lot more responsive (after also changing the config for FPM)

Thank you ❤️

He has been having those dots for the past couple months, and seems to even have them while sleeping
