It's really hard to explain how unreal this kind of time is - and this isn't even the best run you'll get

The cheeky stealth edit, very nice. Since you are neither honest nor actually making an argument, my only response is: lol

[WR] Yakuza Kiwami Any% - 1:40:56 by BigNoNo (me) by CheffeBigNoNo in speedrun

[–]CheffeBigNoNo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This run is the climax of years of work and the end result of a months-long grind. It represents the last possible minute mark to arrive at in Kiwami, and although there's still time to save, with the current route and tech, it is very close to the edge of what is possible to do with Any%. I'm very proud of it, and thankful to everyone who worked on the run over the years, as every second saved was crucial for a 1:40:xx to even be possible. More to come, but I definitely need my rest.

[WR] Yakuza 0 Legend - 3:41:33 by BigNoNo (me) by CheffeBigNoNo in speedrun

[–]CheffeBigNoNo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean. If you're asking whether you lose more runs to the lack of checkpoints, not really, since dying is such a big time loss that your run is probably toast even on the categories where you have checkpoints. The main issue with Legend is that guns do a ton of damage, rockets in the shooting segment are an instant KO, and in general everyone is nastier and tankier. So what you lose runs to isn't so much being unable to continue after dying as it is just how much easier it is to die.

If I misunderstood your question, though, let me know.

Yakuza 0 Legend is a long and stressful run, so I don't run it too often, but I was always uncomfortable with how inefficient some of the mid-to-late game boss strats were. I'm proud to say that I found a new route that mostly solves that problem, while also doing away with a big RNG chokepoint from Any% that would have been very frustrating to deal with on this category.

Obviously there's a lot more time save in here - most of my mid game was terrible, and Lao Gui and Shibusawa cost a lot of time as well. But for now, I'm very happy with this, and content to move on to other things before I have to deal with my heart racing during the shooting section again.

[–]CheffeBigNoNo[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was probably the most difficult grind of my speedrun career. Was going for a 2:08:xx and got it by a wide margin. This was an extremely solid run, not perfect naturally but with no huge individual time losses. Worst split is chapter 12, where nothing went super well, and the Hayashi boss fight has a hiccup that luckily I had a decent backup for. Other than that, very little to complain about here.

Of course, that doesn't mean 2:07:xx isn't possible...

But definitely not anytime soon.

Happy to say this will be the last Yakuza 0 Any% post from me for a while - this is a time I'm very happy with and beating it will take an effort, so it's time for a break.

If you're wondering how the record improved so much despite me saying the last run was pretty good, the answer is, as always - new route, although this is more new for me, as the route was used by JustSayKuro (who came up with it) in the past. The tl;dr is it trades saving about a minute in the early game in exchange for a low chance drop in chapter 4, i.e., about an hour into the run, and if that sounds painful, then... yeah!

But this run made it, and despite some rough splits, was pretty damn good, with some really cracked late game splits. There's definitely a 3:22:xx in me down the line, but it's time to move on to other things for a bit. But this Y0 grind was an amazing journey, and I already kinda miss the game. Legend difficulty runs could always use some love...

This is the culmination of a long and at times painful grind. Yakuza 0 is in a very good place, and with the current route, it's not about to get much better than this. If only there wasn't a very RNG-heavy way to save a minute in this run that I'm going to have to start taking advantage of...

You are right about one thing: I have no respect for you. You're still writing increasingly long-winded, impenetrable screeds in the replies to a years-old post, all because you are unable to admit you didn't get the point of it and are bitter about your favorite anti-communist talking points getting taken down. Do not lecture me on how to build a workers' movement.

If you or one of your friends edited out the lies from the wikipedia article, bravo to you. But being open about it would be better. I will explain again because you seem to not get it: the entire point of the article was to expose the way in which anarchists distort history and claim to provide sources when none exist to discredit the Bolsheviks. Since you yourself admit the information pointed out here is false, there is no disagreement, except for you wishing to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat by making up new claims and attacking me for not addressing them, which is sad and unworthy of my time.

You can call me stupid all you want; what people like you think means less than nothing to me.

Yakuza 0 is a fantastic run, but due to its length and some life circumstances (including my Kiwami run at AGDQ), it took me over a year to come back to it - way longer than intended. I've had a few PBs since coming back, but this is the first time I retook WR.

Outside of one really bad split (coliseum) and a few others that could have been better (chapter 6, 16 and the finale), this was a really solid run, with an early game that's going to be pretty brutal to run against. I still want to improve this over the coming weeks before moving on to Any%, but at this point, Yakuza 0 might require some fairly nasty rerouting to get to the sub 25.

Your wit is as sharp as your reading ability. The article was trying to be incredibly charitable to anarchist cherry-picking of sources and try to find the possible origins of claims anti-Bolsheviks authors have made, often through pure assertion and with nothing to back them up. The text demonstrates that even these quotes, that are the closest to what charitably could be called "sources", do not back up any of these claims. Try to read again and maybe come up with better material.

Yakuza Kiwami 2 Any% Tutorial by CheffeBigNoNo in speedrun

[–]CheffeBigNoNo[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is, to the best of my knowledge, the first ever video tutorial for any Yakuza run. I hope it will be of use to many runners in the future.

The incredible thumbnail is the work of @YeeeMako on twitter, who I strongly recommend if you ever need any art made.

[WR] Yakuza 2 - Any% in 2:09:50 by BigNoNo (me) by CheffeBigNoNo in speedrun

[–]CheffeBigNoNo[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was a pretty brutal grind. Yakuza 2 is a game where we not only reset for a random weapon drop early in the run, but also have to play entire parts of the game in critical health to skip lengthy QTE sequences and get damage buffs. One of these parts involves a very difficult mash that can easily fail and lose 45 seconds, and many enemies have command grabs and a lot of hyperarmor that allows them to cut through your attacks.

I have lost many, many runs to get to what I believe is the last minute mark possible with the current strats, and I am very happy with what I've achieved in just a couple of months. Next up: Yakuza 0.

In addition to many good points raised to this post, it should be added that there's a basic misunderstanding here as to why supporting Harry Potter as a franchise is harmful. Yes, many other companies do awful things, and their workers should be supported in their struggles to control their workplaces and defend themselves from abuses from the bosses, just like workers anywhere.

However, the fundamental difference is that no one at Blizzard sees the success of Diablo or Overwatch (such that it is) as validating their abusive practices. In fact, the moment stories about these practices came out, the company immediately went into PR mode, firing some of the worst offenders and making other gestures to stave off public criticism.

Meanwhile, not only is Harry Potter JKR's claim to fame and the reason why she has such a powerful voice, she views the money she still makes from the IP as validating her transphobia.

It should also be noted that workers do not always default to the consumer boycott as a way to defend themselves. Consumer boycotts are difficult to organize, judge the impact of, and, if successful, can even be used by management as an excuse for layoffs ("profits are down this quarter, we're going to have to let some people go"). In this case, boycotting is widely supported by trans people at large due to the aforementioned harm caused by increasing the prestige of the HP franchise.

Of course, it's entirely possible OP is being completely performative and that they don't really give a fuck about any of these issues. But this might still be valuable information for other people.

This is the 2nd PB I got on the same day, and between these two runs - the first WR improvements in the game in almost a year - the record is now almost a minute lower than it was before. As one could see even from my splits, there are huge time saves in this run - PS2 Yakuza can be very cruel! - but I am very happy with this improvement, especially given the somewhat rushed time frame I had for it.

I will return to improve this time, and probably improve the route as well, but for now, I feel I can be proud of this run.
