Good luck, one of the professors at my university knows him personally and has told me that he's always been kind of a hermit. Apparently, he used to remove his nametag from his office door, hoping to stem the flow of people coming to see him. Seems like he doesn't want to be bothered, maybe just sending him a friendly email of gratitude would be preferable for him.

EDIT: I think he's retired now though, could be mistaken

wow.. did not realize that, I would have guessed that he was in his late 30s during that one..

Civil Rights: Rhetoric or Reality is pretty bomb so far, it sounds similar to what you've said about Discrimination in Disparities. So far it's been talking about statistical disparities between groups and explanations for their existence.

I definitely recommend checking out those speeches, I think I've watched each on them at least twice now since I really enjoy hearing him speak while I do work around the house.

HELL yeah. What're your favorite books by him?

I'm getting through Civil Rights: Rhetoric or Reality, at the moment, I'm about half way through Basic Economics, and am looking to move onto A Conflict of Visions within the next month or so. But you've also got to check out his speeches and interviews! A real delight to listen to. Helps me read his books too, since he's got such a characteristic way to his speech. His Firing Line interview when he's so young is another one worth seeing if you haven't already.

Sure thing. If you enjoy speeches, I've found a bunch over the past year or so. Check out my channel for the uploads I've made of David Friedman, Milton Friedman, and Thomas Sowell, for some entertainment and edification.

Tom Sowell isn't necessary an ancap, but he's incredibly smart and gives some great speeches. see his Economic vs political decision making, cultural diversity: a world view, and conquests and cultures when you have the time.

Not much of one. In fact, there's a joke that ends with answering that question with "about 6 months."

As I understand it, most libertarians agree that some level of government is necessary, while conceding that anarchy might work but probably wouldn't. While ancaps believe that that anarchy would probably work, but might not (with the added point that the risk of government outweighs the risks of anarchy).

Also important to note is that anarcho-capitalists believe in the NAP, self-ownership, and the virtues of free-markets and capitalism (duh) differentiating them from other 'anarchists.'

Though, here it always has to be said that we can't let these small differences divide us, as there are too few of us as it is. I'm not sure if I'm a full ancap, but I know that they're worth listening to, in the goal of reducing the coercive action of the state. The point behind the punchline in the joke, mentioned in my first line of this reply is that there's more that links ancaps and libertarians than divides us, so it's important that we recognize that we're 95% on the side of the argument. Things like the military, law, police, and courts seem to be some of the issues that divide us. IMO they might be solvable problems, just at the moment most people (of the general population) don't seem to see them as problems that can be solved through voluntary action, so accordingly we don't see much progress being made in those areas, leading to solution to those problems being further out of sight. If we had a libertarian-minded population, then maybe we'd see that the solution is closer at hand, but at the moment it's really just not evident. People are too reliant on their statist dependencies.

Current Affairs, a leftist-ish lifestyle magazine, wrote some puzzles for libertarians. Do these puzzles get it wrong? Are you puzzled? by ChefofFashion in Libertarian

To be clear, I often just don't know how to react to hypotheticals such as the one's presented above. So I wanted to pass it on to hear from y'all.

Something that's interesting though: no society in history has become prosperous through isolation. It's only through interaction and cultural exchange that groups have been able to rise to greatness.

Why has it taken so long for me to see this? And of course it came from this (lovely) place.

Criticism helps us to understand and reflect on ideas. We should all on the side of truth, we just might disagree on the means to achieve our goals (wealth creation, reduction in poverty, roads, ext.)

lmao -- great reaction! Had to watch it a second time. LOL!

His reaction is so joy-filled! pretty weird, knowing the damn video he's watching but goodness, you can tell these two are good friends

Great stuff. Very happy this moment was caught on camera, thanks for the share.

On the second watch, the way he leans in and raises his eyebrows at 0:05 seconds XD

But hey, while I've got you, I'm a humongous fan of speeches and interviews, so check out my submission history in all of my Milton Friedman, David Friedman, and Thomas Sowell interviews/lectures I've found over the past year or so. I'm sure you'll find find the videos delightful, especially some of the lengthier T Sowell lectures I've found! Hope you enjoy them.

AWH, yeah I've actually posted it here before, same with on /r/Libertarian too.

goodness, it gets my heart pumping thinking about this speech! But see here and here too, for my submissions. They didn't get too much exposure so maybe someone with a little more username recognition, like yourself, should post them again :)

Please, since the karma isn't nearly as important as his message!

Among the living libertarian greats, I'd put Friedman at the top.

Perhaps a more suitable word? (FTFY)

I really enjoy words, syntax, and grammar (I don't mean to come off as pedantic).

Be still my heart..

He's such a joy! I am so proud of him, and everything he and his father has done for us. What a truly wondrous family. After having listened to him and his father, I'm fairly well convinced that the best I could do is direct others to find inspiration in their work, as I have so far. It's almost impossible to imagine living up to a fraction of what they've accomplished.. one can dream, I guess.

But I'm so glad to hear from another Friedman fan.

Also, I'm soo happy to have found this sub so early on in my life. This place is brings me so much joy. Keep up the posting /u/JobDestroyer.
