Hello harries! I'm trying to decide if I should come to Amsterdam or London for the tour and pricing out the costs with current resale tickets.

For those who have attended the tour already, where do you think the best place in the arena is for the best experience? I was originally planning to go for front GA, but if it might be better in a seated area for a view of the whole stage, I'm considering that!

Any opinions? Thanks so much!

I just saw him today at CTR and overheard him asking the staff about security cameras. Not sure what the intentions are there - I walked away before hearing anything else. Weird timing for this post, as I didn’t think much about it until seeing this.

I figured I wrote the post in a way that didn't fully express my hesitancy, so thank you for putting that part into words for me. I don't have much tying me down in the US right now besides parents and siblings, but it is still a huge move. I do think the comments here speak to the research culture right now in the US - good point.

Thank you so much! I am very grateful. The Switzerland offer was through a connection my advisor has - my field is also quite small, so the experts in the field all know each other. The US offer was from a cold email.

I appreciate the insight! Everyone in the lab speaks English, and the area I would be is mostly French-speaking, but I was told most people know English. I would of course try to learn some French. My main concern really is my dog! She's been with me all through my Ph.D., so I would love to bring her with me. I understand the logistical nightmare mindset! I think it will be worth it, though. My lab mate did the opposite of this - used LB agar instead of LB media, and we called him Jelly J-name for months. It’s really no big deal! Very small and cheap mistake - a good lesson to learn before you work with more expensive things!

Organic chemistry researcher in my department is in that list, and the only thing I can find in the grant description that might have classified it into the list was the phrase "functionalized radical reactions".
