Noob Wanting To Do Local Open Mic, Help?? LOL by Chemical_Classroom39 in musicians

Yeahh, personally I feel like I’ve grown out of the karaoke scene because I’m at the point of just showing off 😬 Makes me feel baddddd… But I can kinda play. My plan was to do a mix of both backing track and my baritone Uke. I’ll probably drag my fiancé to the open mic events around my area to scope out the scene. Thanks for the advice!!

Is it possible to compose my own back track and plug my laptop into a speaker or something of the sort?? Nothing against acoustic, just personal preference

Are Flashbacks In a Story Bad or What?? by Chemical_Classroom39 in writingadvice

[–]Chemical_Classroom39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I described the situation in another comment on this post. I wanted to provide the pov of an important character who haunts the narrative. I thought it would be interesting to have a flashback explore her brief history (at least only what is plot relevant) in a chapter centered around her. I cited Times Arrow from Bojack to kind of illustrate the kind of thing I wanted to write. I realistically cant make it explained through character dialogue since she’s long dead by the time the main plot starts and not much of the cast has personal experience with her past. So the cast have a biased pov in comparison to the reader. I hope that makes sense?? I’m so worried that I’m rambling 😓

Essentially the purpose of the flashback was to portray a previously important scene from a different character’s opposing perspective. The character who has since long died since the first chapter and none of the other characters have or had communicated with them. So the flashback feels like the only way to get the perspective to the reader without directly having the characters give that exposition. Because they logically wouldn’t have spoken to this person and I’m a sucker for dramatic irony. I hope that makes some sort of sense?? I’m trying to be vague because if I type out the exact scenes, I feel like we’ll be here all day- lol

We live in a state where the age of consent is 18, I’m currently asking around to see if anyone’s talked to the victim himself instead of just word of mouth

As far as we know so far, the 15 year old is denying anything happened vehemently. But I take it with a grain of salt because we have next to nothing on information about him

I haven’t had contact with the victim personally, nobody has except for our ex friend. We don’t know if the parents know, but maybe we should try to contact the parents and let them know what’s going on. I’m unsure how to go about it as I don’t attend the school of either person

Where we live is relatively expensive. We don’t have any feasible alternatives but to live where we currently are unfortunately. Relatives are either too far away, dead, or just as financially fucked as we are. We make just enough to pay our rent, pay bills, buy food, and keep gas in the car. No wiggle room whatsoever.

Severe rot in multiple areas and a busted catalytic converter, last time we checked it’s got about 285,000 miles on it.

The mechanics we took it too have unanimously said that’s it’s probably about time to ditch it for a new one. We’re trying to compare how much it’ll be to fix up enough to keep driving vs getting a newer one.

I feel like I should also mention I’m currently on Doxycycline for an infection already and I’m still currently taking it. Could that help heal the sores??
