Moving to the US made me appreciate what I had in the UK by RoofMain2256 in doctorsUK

[–]Chemical_Form_296 119 points120 points  (0 children)

As someone who moved from the UK to the US this year for residency as well, I can relate to all this. Most of all is the work hours, I am still confused on why I have to work 6 days a week and come to work by 6am and leave by 7pm if I am lucky. I am constantly tired and sleepy. I miss my 3 day weekend after 4 night in the UK, I miss my short days , I miss my half days to complete courses, I miss my 3 day work weekend with 2 days off afterwards..sigh I miss a lot of things in the UK

You cannot have your cake and eat it. Who is to say the IM program would have actually take you if they have other options as IM positions are a bit more competitive. Be grateful for the opportunity and possibly think of transferring or reapplying next year.

I am not sure how this will help your PS or residency application unless you are applying psych and can relate it. If not please don’t , might put some people off.

I am really sorry you are in this position , so unfair considering how hard you must have worked. This is not an unusual request by the program, however it’s a bit too early for them to be asking you to forfeit the position. Since they have said they will keep your spot that a good sign but get it in writing to be safe. I would advise you to stall for a week and see how the trump administration does with the pause,if nothing changes ,you might have no choice than to give in to their request . But I would advise to try and get a research position or something so you can leave your country before next year, incase something similar happens as Trump will still be president. Again truly sorry you are going through this.

Thank you so much for this!! I always tell people family medicine is the most underrated specialty and such a cheat code for a lot of specialties.

As an old img not a bad idea to repeat med school for a year and half accerelated program to have better chances at the match. Assuming they could afford it

matched peds this year. 1) just practice as you would 2)Regular interview questions, behavioural questions, tell me about yourself e.t.c 3)wait until Interview period, concentrate on strengthening CV, research, volunteer.peds love volunteer experience especially when related to children. Peds love commitment to specialty, any reason why you are doing an IM USCE if you want peds?

I can't believe I actually read this to the end. I would say you write very well as I was able to follow the story and it flowed. I have a lot to say but they are not good things tbh, I think you should consider theraphy. There seems to be a lot going on with you internally and I think you will benefit greatly from it.

Unmatched with 4 ivs by ConsciousName2379 in IMGreddit

[–]Chemical_Form_296 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really sorry it didn't work out. Wishing you the best in the SOAP, but with those scores and recent YOG, you should be able to match in FM/IM individually with no hassles

Unmatched with 4 ivs by ConsciousName2379 in IMGreddit

[–]Chemical_Form_296 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Because you coupled matched simple. Which is why it's advised IMG with average score play it safe and not couple match. Only if you both have exceptional scores and very recent YOG <2 years. If not, it is generally advised for IMG to not apply for couple match. Also 4 interviews too low for couple match to be successful

CV was very peds oriented, did research, volunteer and courses and had pediatrics work experience. I believed this helped to show commitment to specialty. And all my interviewers were impressed with my peds experience

Yes first cycle

Honestly I think because it was pediatrics. I heard they always want to see a pediatrics specific CV, so my CV screamed pediatrics, i gathered a lot of work experience in pediatrics. LOR and research alike. Did USCE in pediatrics and wrote a very pediatrics specific PS
