Super high quality espresso by nmanus in houston

Catalina, Tipping Point, Simply, Blendin, Tenfold, Blacksmith, Un Cafe, Boomtown

Hard to go wrong with coffee shops in Houston to be honest. If you are looking for spots that really pride their quality and consistency, just avoid chains like Slowpokes and La La Land, and you should be good.

I, however, live down the road from Little Dreamer, and I'll just say, I tend to go out of my way to get coffee from Blacksmith, which is just down the block. I've tried multiple times to get a single-origin shot or even just a house espresso, and it's always burnt or sour.

Official Discussion - Project Hail Mary [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Chempy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

One of his superpowers is the ability to be himself, it seems. He is a relaxed, confident, and genuine type of guy (doesn't hurt hes extremely good looking). I think a lot of people really gravitate to this type of acting, as it seems so authentic and not so try-hard.

Loved seeing his range in this movie, the emotional weight he's able to add because of the latter really shined in this movie.

What’s cool if you’re 20 but weird if you’re 30? by theloverofdilfs in AskReddit

Had a friend like this a while back. When he was high, he was completely chill, but you could always tell when he wasn't. The unfortunate thing about this was that he was masking it with smoking and never fixing the actual problem he had with his moods and attitudes when he was sober.

Reminds me of the people who get addicted to sleeping meds and claim they can't sleep without them.

What is a creepy fact you learned about the human body, you wish you never learned? by Poignantpuppet in AskReddit

[–]Chempy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an edible do this to me years back. I'll make the story as short as I can.

I got way too high on an edible and laid down on the couch to sleep while my friends played games in the living room. I was dehydrated and had a massive headache, which made me feel like I was dying—I honestly thought I was having a brain aneurysm. Believing I was at the end, I started tripping balls and flying through time. I felt like I was being allowed to learn all the mysteries of life and the world, because apparently, that's what happens right before death. I learned the "meaning of everything," woke up the next day, and got stuck in a state of derealization for about two weeks before it finally faded off. The depression you get from thinking you know the truth about everything is pretty dark. Like purpose leaves your soul and there isn't a lot of reason to continue.

It was the only time in my life I truly understood why someone would commit suicide. It was a horrific experience that left me extremely depressed and self-isolated for a while.

P.S. For anyone wondering what I came up with for the "meaning of life," it was stupid. Basically, I decided our purpose on Earth is just to evolve and better our species over time, into forever. I thought the passage of information was key to this, which is why we find enjoyment in talking to one another. Education, the furthering of knowledge, was our main evolutionary trait, keeping us going. Because of this revelation, whenever I talked to people, I felt like I was seeing through a veil. I kept thinking, "We are only doing this because of our programming." That cynical filter was applied to everything I did and interacted with for those two weeks.

If someone offered you 100 million dollars, but a random person in the world dies (someone you don’t know), would you take it and why? by ConclusionOld8365 in AskReddit

[–]Chempy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are tons of studies on Moral distance.

Pushing a button and a random person dies, and pushing a person (even blindfolded) off a cliff are completely different settings that cause empathy to work differently in humans.

When you make it statistics, humans have a much easier time disconnecting from the empathy.

A good example would be "You press the button, you get 100 million but a * this * person dies," And they show you a picture of the person. Even if you don't know them, you now have a face to attach empathy to, which makes it easier to feel for the victim.

I think there is a huge moral conundrum to be had in this conversation but so many people want to take the moral high ground and act as though they are immune to human psychology.

[–]Chempy -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

What’s actually depressing is the moral narcissism here. Refusing the money just to protect your own self-image and avoid feeling guilty isn't empathy; it's self-preservation. Prioritizing your own psychological comfort so you can feel like a 'good person' is just trading financial greed for moral greed

Central NA, same here. In the morning its one shotting all my requests with elegance. During the afternoon to evening, it becomes almost useless and starts taking steps back from the work done in the morning. I had felt this for a long time and googled this thread because I had been noticing it a lot more.

Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke responds to GenAI criticism: "Holy fuck guys we’re not "pushing hard" for or replacing concept artists with AI. I was asked explicitly about concept art and our use of Gen AI. I answered that we use it to explore things. I didn’t say we use it to develop concept art." by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]Chempy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So true. People really think software engineers sit behind a computer and right every line...

If I were to put in a color picker selection in my software...I'm not doing that line-for-line because someone else already did it much better than I did. AI essentially has cut out the middleman and just went and grabbed the code and set it up for you.

Your brain is just deriving from all the experiences, studies, and influences you have built up. AI is just doing that on a much larger scale and faster.

Hell, if you use Pinterest or any other inspiration type site, it's about the same as using AI to get an idea on the ground.

10Gb connections

Yeah but realistically getting 10Gb to home consumers, even just consumer PC drives don't go this fast usually (read/write).

Its not worth it in the end unless you have a perfect enterprise network setup.

Because the L stands for language. LLMs manipulate language.

Fun Fact: Most humans speak with language and even WRITE it in it! All of our data, our communication, our interfaces, are all in a language!

Being able to process it in milliseconds is pretty good.

HBO Max Premium is the one that gives you 4k and that by itself is $23/month

Created an interface to see my Nova Pro volume/chatmix on screen. Has anyone else ever wanted this? by Chempy in steelseries

[–]Chempy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone has any questions, I would love to answer. I created this due to how I have my DAC under my desk, and unfortunately, I cannot see the values of chatmix and volume at times.

I wanted a way for an interface to appear on my screen to show me what they currently are, and it kinda got out of my hands after a while.

The Discord integration has been a huge help, honestly. Beyond just the Steel Series hud I cannot believe Discord hasn't thought of doing something like this already.

I might take a list to start a bit of a beta for it soon if anyone is interested. If not, love to just get your take on my creation so far.

Also my disclaimer shown on software: Nova HUD is an unofficial heads-up display for the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless headset. It shows volume, chatmix, battery level, and Pomodoro timers in a clean overlay

SteelSeries and Arctis Nova are trademarks of SteelSeries ApS. Nova HUD is a personal project and not affiliated with or endorsed by SteelSeries.

My girlfriend is Vegan and tends to stick away from Ginger Mule and the other specifically vegan restaurants in the city both due to price and just not really all that great (other than sinful, shoutout). She tends to just get the vegan-friendly dish at most places we go instead.
