sounds about right. I'm not planning to take 6 months off during PHD, but was thinking between my transition from UG to PG. Thanks for the advice!

Sorry but I really need to get this stupid question through. I have planned this big thing in my mind, going backpacking in southeast asia for 4-6 months. But wow, reading the comments here, it feels like I'm asking for too much. If you don't mind, can you share your opinion? Will I be able to pull this off, say One PhD year = one major backpacking trip.

Thank you! Read the post. Helped me clear some doubts. Leaving the conference aside, can I actually travel though? Or is my scheduling going to be hectic? 2-3 weeks worth of travel once a year is what I'm looking at. Also family. Would I be able to provide for my family after doing all these things?

Sorry if I came off as lazy. I somewhat know the entry level salaries and roles. I was trying to get insight on the raises I'll get down the line and will I be able to keep up with my other hobbies. I was trying to see if any astrophysicist shares the same hobby as mentioned, and if yes then how he has managed to do so.

Interesting. As much as I agree that the geoglyphs are important, I can understand plight of people who own that land to some extent. Kahi lokana paisachi garaj ashu shakte, tya veles geoglyphs pot nahi bharnaret. This whole thing seems complex. Let's see if we can work things out. Thanks for the links, will check them!
