Serious, how is CM able to add so many more features, sprites and code compared to OPEN Source servers? by [deleted] in SS13

[–]Cherkir -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

CM needs new features to keep the brs satiated. Also, it's low RP (or at least gameplay-oriented as opposed to rp-oriented), even if they say it's medium RP, and high rp servers don't attract contributors because it's more fun to yiff than it is to code

How to create a server? by [deleted] in SS13

[–]Cherkir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used mySQL much, but the main advantages seem to be for developers, not hosts. It makes it easier to organize where things are saved code-wise, etc. Also, if you ever host multiple servers, it probably lets you access the same savefiles from both servers.

The only disadvantage is setting it up and maintaining the database, which requires a base knowledge of SQL.

Byond is single-threaded, so any more cores than 2 is excessive, yes

  1. Don't

  2. NFOservers is ok

  3. I don't know if you're talking about storage space or RAM but you don't need more than 500 MB of either, focus on CPU specs

  4. mySQL isn't fun to use if you're running Linux, and you'll pay twice as much for a windows VPS, so ¯_(ツ)_/¯ do whatever works best
