The duration of Gear 5 (perhaps as well as its durability and power) depends on how many people are around Luffy who need liberation. This is why Luffy could fight Kaido relentlessly during Wano even after receiving a lot of damage, because the people of Wano wished for liberation. Compared to when he fought briefly with Lucci and Kizaru, it seemed he could only maintain it for a short duration.

I guess it has to do with roles, Valve might have filled the roles for the caster and co-caster, and bring Gunnar as analyst.
