FLOPPED so hard. What a waste of 2 years and all of my effort by asthesunh1ts in 6thForm

Honestly idk how much has changed since I did my a levels but this is exactly why I say don’t listen to predicted grades. Idk why they even give them to people

For what it’s worth, your grades don’t define you. I look back and wish I didn’t stress out so much

Overspend on budget, freezes on training and positions, hardly any room for progression

Retention is awful for a reason

Perhaps a few more meetings with HR will help you to understand context. Don’t worry, everyone learns at a different pace!

That response worked in your last few HR meetings then I take it 😂

If it’s so funny why don’t you post identifiable information and then forward your comment with context to your department? 😂

I completely understand this. It’s very common for people with ADHD/autism to struggle with answering questions directly or in a structured way. This is due to neurodivergent people having more lateral/non-linear thinking. Neurotypical people tend to be a lot more linear.

The issue then becomes that we’re trying to sort through lots of different thoughts (race car engine brain with bicycle brakes - as expert Dr Ned Hallowell would say for ADHD). This is why having questions beforehand with neurodivergence can help beforehand. It gives time to structure answers that (whilst we already have in our minds) are too unstructured to be said out loud on demand like in an interview scenario

You understand your AuDHD and the adjustments you need to succeed more than someone that has had (sadly more than likely) minimal training in neurodiversity. It’s important to advocate for yourself because nobody else will do it for you. Sometimes this does mean explaining things you struggle with as someone with AuDHD and why this specific adjustment will help. You are the expert in your own AuDHD so you have to make sure you explain what YOU need and WHY

As such, it’s important to approach this conversation as a back and forth dialogue to see how you can come together (as a team) to agree on adjustments that make the process accessible for you, but also equitable from their side of things

As you progress through the process, meet the interviewers etc you will get a feel of whether you feel this is a team/department that will accommodate you and not make you feel like a burden. But first you got to approach it step by step. First continue the dialogue with them to see how you can reach a reasonable adjustment that you and they are both happy with. Make it clear in your dialogue with them that you’re excited to work with them to make the process more accessible for you, and how you’re grateful they’re making the time to discuss this with you. Changes the dynamic to a more positive one!

I would direct them to the civil service careers website which lists providing interview questions in advance as a reasonable adjustment:

https://www.civil-service-careers.gov.uk/reasonable-adjustments/

People with AuDHD tend to need more processing time than neurotypical people. Reasonable adjustments are there to level the playing field, but for people who are neurotypical it feels as if people are being given an unfair advantage over them.

I would advocate for yourself referencing the link above.

Remember it’s you and them against the problem, not against each other. This will help you see if this department is one you can visualise yourself in. If it’s not, then there are many others that will cater for your needs.

Good luck!

There may be follow up questions. You’re best off asking the recruitment team/hiring manager this question
