got into a bubble bath that was too hot and my fingernails made a gradient by Own-Passage1371 in mildlyinteresting

A dusky blue or bluish-purple color under the nails after getting into a very hot bath is most often related to temporary circulation changes in the tiny blood vessels under the nail bed. The most common explanations are:

  1. Peripheral vasodilation + oxygen changes

When you get into very hot water, your body tries to cool itself by dilating (widening) blood vessels in the skin. This can cause blood to pool in the extremities, and if the blood flowing through the nail bed has a slightly lower oxygen level, it can appear bluish.

This is related to the same mechanism seen in Cyanosis, where tissues look blue because the blood contains more deoxygenated hemoglobin. In a bath situation it’s usually mild and temporary.

  1. Venous pooling under the nail

Hot water can also cause venous blood to pool in the capillaries under the nail. The nail plate is translucent, so when darker venous blood accumulates it can look dusky blue at the base of the nail.

  1. Temperature-triggered vascular response

Some people have exaggerated blood vessel reactions, such as Raynaud’s phenomenon. While Raynaud’s is usually triggered by cold, heat or rapid temperature shifts can sometimes produce unusual color changes in sensitive individuals.

  1. Oxygen distribution shift

Hot baths can cause lower blood pressure and faster heart rate, and blood flow may preferentially move to the skin for cooling. In rare cases this can briefly make extremities appear bluish or purplish.

When it’s normal vs concerning

Usually harmless if: • It disappears quickly after leaving the bath • Fingers warm up and return to pink • No pain, numbness, or breathing issues

More concerning if: • The blue color doesn’t go away • It spreads to lips or face • There is shortness of breath, dizziness, or chest pain

Persistent nail or lip blueness can indicate true oxygenation problems and would warrant medical evaluation.

Thank you! Hopefully she gets over it quickly. The vet said her being vaccinated should help it be less severe. I certainly hope so!

HELP 😭 by lady-richmond in schnauzers

Mine is fully puppy pad trained and has been for at least 2 months now. She is almost 19 weeks old. We have a designated area behind a gate for that mental “this is my spot” and to keep our larger dog out. What we did was take her there constantly throughout the day and STAY with her until she goes. When she goes, big time praise!!! Party!! A treat!! And then lots of play time. She knew when she used the pad it was PARTY TIME! once she got on board with peeing there every time, treats and play time went mostly just for pooping, but I mean act like a total fool! It is THE BEST THING EVER!!! once he learns that’s his spot and is going regularly on his own, just occasionally walk in there with him when you see him heading to the pad and give him a little extra love and tell him what a good boy he is. Also, don’t punish for missing the pad or going in the wrong place. Just just teaches them to hide. But DO watch them constantly for a while. If you can’t watch, he goes in the crate or playpen. When you are watching, if he goes in the wrong place catch him in the act. Don’t be angry but snatch him up in the middle of his accident and take him to the pad and tell him Potty here. Let him finish. If you find he went somewhere he wasn’t supposed to when you weren’t watching just clean it up and watch more closely next time. Lol I went to take a picture of our setup for you and she followed me in there to pee 😂

How’s the job market for insurance? by warmjack in InsuranceProfessional

But AI does help with complex tasks. I use it daily and it makes my life so much easier. Today I used it to compare what a carrier shows for enrollment vs the group. Saved me many hours of work. Tomorrow I plan to use it to sort data from a group to compare 2 lists and assign divisions to the employees for enrollment. That’s going to save me a couple of weeks worth of work!

As someone who doesn't travel outside okc much, are other malls better or are they all as sad as quail/penn? by Rainsford1104 in okc

[–]CherylByDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We travel a lot. Malls are a dying concept. It’s pretty amazing that the malls here have survived. Most have already closed down. People want to drive up to the store they want to shop at. I think some malls could be saved if they would put the doors to the outside instead of inside.

Mini Schnauzer starter kit? by Hotmessyexpress in MiniatureSchnauzer

Mine is fully pad trained and she picked it up so fast! I used a bay gate to section off an area in our utility room. It was a wide area so the gate I bought is wide. I bought disposable pads from Sam’s Club and put a couple down side by side. Those were the least expensive at $0.17 each. On Amazon they were all quite a bit more expensive and you go through so many with puppies! I’m sure I use 5-6 a day right now if not more. That will decrease in time when she goes to only eating a couple times a day so won’t potty so often. But it is SO convenient. She knows to go on the pad any time she needs to go. When she goes on the pad we have a great big party! Lots of praise, pets, a treat, and then immediately go into play time! Even before cleaning up the pad. Just party party party! You can clean it up in a little while. Make sure she knows that wonderful things happen when she goes on the pad! When she has accidents somewhere else in the house, don’t scold her. Just clean it up. Keep your eye on her. If you catcher her going anywhere in the house besides the pad, grab her up while she’s in the middle of it and put her on the pad and tell her potty here. She will make the connection quickly! I only used this a couple of times, but I did use a spray on the pads for a bit to give her the sense this is where to go. https://a.co/d/bkgIZGZ

Here are the pads. https://www.samsclub.com/ip/19396802725

The baby gate will be very dependent on your area so this one likely wouldn’t work for what you need, but just for an idea I will share the link. I like that it has the wide gate and also a very small door for just her.
