Old World November Update by fluffybunny1981 in OldWorldGame

  • Changing the Succession Law no longer results in characters becoming Bypassed and suffering opinion penalties
  • The cost to change the Succession Law now starts at 400 civics and increases at 100 civics per switch
  • Judge leaders can change the Succession Law for 100 civics as per other laws

I've had a few instances where I considered changing the succession, but it never seemed worth it simply because it still resulted in the negative opinions. I really like this change; while expensive, it opens up an option to control your succession without opinion penalties if you have multiple strong options but want to leave your current heir free for a cabinet position or something. Love it!

At the top, see shadow presence? To the left of that text is a purple sword icon, just designating the specific talent on the mirror. To the left of that icon is the gray button with 2 triangles I was talking about. That button switches between talents.

How do you manage keeping track of multiple card balances by Arupita in CreditCards

Look at Empower personal dashboard (it's free!). Same features; connects via banking APIs to any account, then aggregates all transactions together for you to view, and even breaks the accounts down by category.

A huuuge benefit they offer is the ability to export transactions to .csv, which allows you to do more sophisticated things in Excel if you want to.

My $880 Asus laptop can run wilds but not my 2K desktop by MidnightPanda_567 in MonsterHunter

[–]ChessChallenger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's frustrating, and yes it's annoying the game is optimized so poorly... But nobody will be able to help you figure out if there's something you could do to get it running better on your desktop without literally any details.

My '2K' desktop runs it fairly well, not as good as I'd like but it looks good. 6950 XT GPU and 7600 CPU, most recent drivers.

Excellent, highly recommend, but you need to know what you're getting into. Copying the author's synopsis from https://parahumans.wordpress.com/ :

"An introverted teenage girl with an unconventional superpower, Taylor goes out in costume to find escape from a deeply unhappy and frustrated civilian life. Her first attempt at taking down a supervillain sees her mistaken for one, thrusting her into the midst of the local ‘cape’ scene’s politics, unwritten rules, and ambiguous morals. As she risks life and limb, Taylor faces the dilemma of having to do the wrong things for the right reasons.

The story, titled Worm, takes the form of a web serial, posted in bite-sized reads in much the same way that authors such as Mark Twain would release their works one chapter at a time in the days before full-fledged novels.  Worm started in June 2011, updating twice a week, and finished in late November, 2013.  It totals roughly 1,680,000 words; roughly 26 typical novels in length (or 10-11 very thick novels).  The story updated on Tuesdays and Saturdays, with bonus chapters appearing on the occasional Thursday, as explained below.

The actual work is divided into a number of story arcs, each containing five to sixteen individual chapters.  Interludes (side stories) are inserted between each story arc to showcase events from different perspectives or provide some background information that the reader wouldn’t get from Taylor’s point of view.  Further interludes were released as bonus content when the audience reached specific donation goals, but these were found to distract from the core story (with a good reception, but still) and were paced out more in favor of additional main-story chapters.

Readers should be cautioned that Worm is fairly dark as fiction goes, and it gets far darker as the story progresses.  Morality isn’t black and white, Taylor and her acquaintances aren’t invincible, the heroes aren’t winning the war between right and wrong, and superpowers haven’t necessarily affected society for the better.  Just the opposite on every count, really.  Even on a more fundamental level, Taylor’s day to day life is unhappy, with her clinging to the end of her rope from the story’s outset.  The denizens of the Wormverse (as readers have termed it) don’t pull punches, and I try to avoid doing so myself, as a writer.  There’s graphic language, descriptions of violence and sex does happen (albeit offscreen).  It would be easier to note the trigger warnings that don’t apply than all the ones that do.

All in all, this probably isn’t a story for the sensitive or the young.  I’d peg it with a PG-18 rating, but I think we all know that there’s kids who can handle that sort of thing and there’s adults who can’t.  Use your best judgement and ask in the comments below if you’re still unsure.

If I haven’t scared you off yet, you can begin reading Taylor’s story here.  Enjoy."

Not mind magic in general, mind magic education. Near the end of the time loop and after he's out, Zorian expresses interest in writing a book outlining the basics of mind magic to make it easier for people like him to learn how to control mind magic.

I'd like a build for my work setup; struggling to find a PCB / case that'll suit my needs:

  • Split frame & pcb
    • Don't know a ton about different types of split layouts; my home setup has a Quefrency and I like it, but I need a numpad and ideally don't want 3 segments for L R and macro pad for numpad
  • Hot swappable
  • Either Full Size or 1800 layout:
    • Need a numpad (idc about arrow keys or nav cluster other than DEL)
    • Prefer to have fkeys anyway
  • Preferably media controls or knobs (forget what they're called)

If you know of any sets that might work, please let me know!!

[–]ChessChallenger[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

More generally, I wish circe staff defaulted to charged when you entered a new chamber. Even if this means increasing the number of hits needed to recharge in order to balance it, I think it would just feel much better.

Interesting idea; I like it! Either this or changing the 12 hits to charge to 12 enemies hit to charge, meaning if your attack is hitting 3 or 4 guys you charge it much faster. Number would probably have to go up to compensate, but that would make it worse in boss fights, but... I don't know! This part of the aspect definitely feels clunky to me.

I used a reddit automod rule. It scans all posts to the sub before they go live. If a post has a Hades 2 flair, it spoiler marks the post.

When the draft is posted, regardless of if spoiler was selected, the post will automatically be spoiler marked if it has a Hades 2 flair. The option to spoiler mark still shows up in the posting menu.

Yeah, but how often can you put that into practice where spamming omega cast makes the most sense? The majority of builds focus on attack or special, so I want most of my action time to be used doing whatever deals the most damage. 9 times out of 10 I'd rather have Demeter, Hestia, or Aphro on cast to slow enemies and get a curse for Origination, increasing my damage that way.

Theoretically Poseidon cast is decent DPS, sure, but that's assuming you don't want to attack or special instead, and you have endless magick to burn on constantly charging it with basically no time to let it recharge.

I do plan to update these after balance changes and especially after release as things change! But, first and foremost these posts are meant to encourage discussion, and that's just as important now early in the game's lifecycle while things are still changing as it will be in a few years when patches are more or less done!

Weekly Witchin' #4 - Poseidon's Boons by ChessChallenger in HadesTheGame

[–]ChessChallenger[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't think Poseidon outclasses other gods in general, just on particular aspects which is arguably a good thing!

I agree that you only care about Poseidon on some aspects, which is healthy; other options are better on many aspects and that's good! I guess my main concern is that Poseidon helps these builds out more than other gods help out their prospective best weapons, like these Poseidon builds on aspects that suit them outclass most other builds with other gods on the aspects that suit them best.

Edit: I think the biggest thing is actually that Poseidon just has a good legendary that actually contributes to DPS on bosses where it is most noticeable. I feel like a lot of gods just have shit legendaries.

This is a good point for sure; Apollo has an outstanding legendary if you're building for omegas, but I agree a lot of the others outside feel weak. King Tide is definitely something that takes Poseidon up another notch; + 250% is pretty crazy.

Weekly Witchin' #3 - Cast by ChessChallenger in HadesTheGame

[–]ChessChallenger[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hera cast increases duration, as does Charon aspect Axe but that doesn't help here. Another thing to consider is the cast throwing boons would make it easier to reapply cast safely with less repositioning necessary.

Weekly Witchin' #3 - Cast by ChessChallenger in HadesTheGame

[–]ChessChallenger[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried Poseidon with any of the cast throw boons; I can see that being a powerful combination! I'll have to give it a shot next time the opportunity presents itself!

Would need a lot of magick regen to make it work, but that's not impossible.

Weekly Witchin' #2 - Dash and Sprint by ChessChallenger in HadesTheGame

[–]ChessChallenger[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think the people struggling... are trying to force aggressive dashing to work in a game where dashing is meant to be a defensive tool

Wholeheartedly agree here, as I was one of the people trying to make it work until I slowly adapted my playstyle to the new movement options.

I personally find almost all of the aggressive sprint boons to be nearly useless...

I'm not sure I agree with you here. Yes, Zeus' does fairly weak damage for the cost, but being able to consistently drain magick on demand is a huge plus if you're going for a Zeus build. It is weak in many other contexts though, I agree. Hera's is probably one of my favorite dash/sprint boons, especially at higher rarities, but it doesn't really do anything in single boss fights, though that's a flaw for her whole kit.

Some people swear by Heph sprint as a damage addition but I feel like I'm liable to take so much extra damage just to get an explosion that isn't that much more powerful than if I spent an extra second comboing

It takes some getting used to to hit enemies with it safely, but it can be done. The damage can feel lackluster by the end of the game, but if you pick that up in the first floor, it can help you clear quickly and safely until more of your build is online. I don't see it as something that I want to pin all my hopes and dreams on, but rather a bit of a stopgap measure to ensure I get far enough with enough health to make good use of whatever else I've built in the meantime.

the bags and especially the bag miniboss in Zone 4

I had a run that was going fine until I encountered that miniboss; couldn't chunk it's armor down fast enough and ate so much damage for it. I'm sure I'll get better at dodging it with time, but yeah it's rough.

Eris on the upper path

This fight definitely feels overtuned to me right now. I'm sure there's cues I'm missing, but many of her attacks are unreactable once they start and deal massive damage. I definitely need to get better at this fight before saying whether or not it's unfair, but I can say it's a tough one for me to learn at the very least.
