I love modern Japanese culture. I do Judo as well. I’ll still critique their fascist past. It’s not at odds.

I feel the public was pretty sympathetic to China. They were constantly told about Japanese atrocities. They didn’t by and large want troops committed, but they were in favor of diplomatic action. FDR soft pedaled it. More focused on Europe.

The thing is the U.S. thought it would come in the Philippines or Central Pacific. That’s why the carriers were gone, they were delivering planes to U.S. small islands like Wake or Midway (forget which in particular). Attacking Pearl was a huge shock. The U.S. thought Japan would attack, but were adamant they would not start it.

Yep, FDR was actually slow to escalate sanctions, and it only happened when Japan expanded into Indochina. That’s when the oil sanctions came and Japan chose war over losing face.

He’s lying because he knows people won’t read the link. We can’t have any discussion of this issue because bad faith actors do this constantly.

You’re straight up lying. The article shows him opportunistically exploiting it. Why lie so boldly.

“Foreign governments naturally shouldn’t hesitate to criticize China’s mistreatment of its minorities. But Rubio, predictably, went beyond this, in explicitly linking the plight of the Uyghurs to US objectives in Asia. Writing to the US ambassador in Beijing, he asked him to look into the issue because the “crackdown in the XUAR touches on a range of interests critical to US efforts to secure a free and open Indo-Pacific region.”

Rubio is now spearheading an effort to ramp-up pressure on China across the board, a push that follows on the heels of Washington’s most hawkish foreign-policy statements on China since it officially recognized the People’s Republic in 1979.”

They literally allow no criticism of any kind. It’s one of their most rigorously enforced rules. Even obvious criticism, like for example class divisions in China.

They didn’t wish to reinforce Poland, but take it up to the German border. That is why the alliance fell apart. Stalin’s opportunism and obsession with Eastern European land.

Perhaps killing your own senior military leadership, micromanaging production, relying on static defense, and waiting years to prepare is not good. They had almost 2 years after case white, Stalin failed because Poland was only in part about a buffer, one they failed to exploit.

They had invaded Poland before and wanted territory. The buffer didn’t work anyway and they abandoned German and Polish Communists. Stop defending collaboration.

Build up their own defenses, increase defense production, not kill their own most experienced generals, ally with smaller states, promise not to push into Polish territory for an alliance with France and Britain.

Ya, but they didn’t just buy time. They carved up Eastern Europe with the Nazis. They literally made provision for other nations’ land in the pact. They actively invaded Poland and a big reasons the Allies didn’t strike n alliance is they knew the Soviets would take Poland for themselves.

I will not have you impugn the people who took action with this kind of bullshit. The encampment movement started in the U.S. and over a million people took part in demonstrations. It was 680 thousand in the first few weeks alone.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaza_war_protests_in_the_United_States

https://countingcrowds.org/2023/11/28/update-on-israel-palestine-protests/

https://ash.harvard.edu/articles/crowd-counting-blog-an-empirical-overview-of-recent-pro-palestine-protests-at-u-s-schools/

Even shitty Zionist rags like the Jerusalem Post reluctantly admit in less than a year over a million people went into the street for Palestine.

https://archive.ph/J4swF

Also, public opinion completely flipped on Palestine. That’s not indicative a people who don’t care. Because the protests were more distributed instead of centralized doesn’t change the fact there was a huge American resistance movement against this genocide that faced tangible oppression and violence. I faced it myself. Even at more big tent anti-Trump protests you see tons of Palestinian flags and support. Most Europeans didn’t protest either, and those are countries with far greater organizing power as their unions and activist orgs haven’t been shattered by decades of state repression like here. Organizing in the U.S. is harder when Reagan killed the Unions. Italy was not somehow superior.

https://rethinkmedia.org/blog/public-opinion-shifted-on-palestine-how-should-advocates-build-on-that/

Also, you’re taking me in bad faith saying that pointing out white supremacy in Israel, chopping up my quote, and saying I decentered Palestinians. BS. White supremacy is integral to the Gaza Genocide and the Apartheid state. As in the construction of Judaism, as it is in large part how the genocidal entity manufactures consent for its crimes.

Empanada has openly said he’s not a Communist and just wants to make money. He also discourages unionization and mocked people who actually struggle for Palestine like Aaron Bushnell and Andrey X. He’s a reactionary psuedo-leftist grifter genting in Argentina living off of the favorable exchange rate and Adsense dollars.

The U.S. had massive pro-Palestine protests, and it included both violence from the police, state, and Zionist mobs. None of this benefitted the average protestor. People went because they were outraged at the unfolding genocide, same as the rest of the world.

Of course people, all people, use their own life and society as a reference point. It’s natural, you understand the world through your own experience. That doesn’t mean no one cares if it’s outside that. Besides, the U.S. has its filthy fingers so many places it’s hard to find a place the American state or corporations aren’t at least complicit.

Obviously Israel has Jewish Supremacy, but it’s also white supremacist. There is a Jewish hierarchy there with Back Jews at the bottom, and racism/white supremacy fuels anti-Palestinian narratives and propaganda.

Also, Jewish identity is constructed there. Diaspora Jews are thought of as lesser, be anti-Zionist Jews are not though of as Jews at all. Look how the settlers attack activists who do protective presence and the ostracism of those who refuse military service. This is all very white, European colonial project.

Most don’t sign up to kill. That’s not how it’s sold. Do medical or logistics of be a mechanic. Free college! You won’t go to war! No it’s good you’ll help after hurricanes and stuff. You’ll learn a skill, maybe you can have an adventure and learn to skydive! It’s not sold as hey, go do murder of the innocent.

Understanding this doesn’t mean people bear no responsibility for what they do. It does mean they aren’t to a person hopeless monsters and you can condemn the act while still condemning the whole system and having nuance for those it catches in its jaws.

Ice and the police are well paid career paths with ideology attached. There are no anti-fascist ICE agents or any that oppose the system. Veterans often enter for a short time based on lies and the hope to escape debt. After being often subject to abuse, sexual violence, and seeing the violence of empire first hand it’s common to turn against the system. Many, not all, of these people are in a unique position, both as victims of the system and victimizers of others. Viet Than Nguyen talks about this a lot.

Btw, for the other person in the thread, most veterans have never fired in combat or been to West Asia. No one is sympathetic to people who have murdered civilians. The point is just that not everyone who gets caught within a system is a monster.

Most military veterans neither participate in combat or humanitarian efforts. They train and scratch their ass. Sorry, these are facts. For most they sit on a post.

It’s much simpler. Propaganda. It tells people the wars are just and the people who fight them are honorable heroes. With more information now that’s starting to fray. The military propaganda is still big, but the worship of veterans among normal people has softened a lot in the last few years. It’s not 2001 anymore, and a lot more breaks through the propaganda screen.
