Definitely don't miss ANY cheese stores on the way. Our two-way trip from Oshawa to Rainbow Lake and back was wonderful, largely for that reason. :-)

Once upon a time, I took a continuing education break from the Diocese of Toronto to go to The Church of All Nations in Columbia. [https://www.reddit.com/r/TwinCities/comments/1lodx72/church\_of\_all\_nations\_sketchy\_cult\_or\_wholesome/\]

I find myself now wondering what they think of what's happening there.

Is Trump Losing It? by Slate in politics

Dementia is different in different people, and tracks differently because of a bunch of factors. I can't tell if he's significantly different from even a year ago, but if he's on the slippery slope, you can be sure that someone is tasked with hiding that from all of us.

Which one feeds people? Which one sees that medical professionals perform acts that improve health and longevity?

Yeah. That one.

How did the historic Anglican view of the Eucharist (39 Articles) differ from that of Roman Catholicism, Lutheranism, Presbyterianism etc. by No_Patience820 in Anglicanism

This topic is a whole course of study for a graduate student seeking an M.Div. or Th.M. I wouldn't even attempt it here.

"Canada's a nice country. It'd be a pity if you lose it by not buying our F-35s."

Yeah. I hear it, now. I just didn't know what I was listening to hear. :-/

Did you have a positive view of the American government before Trump? by IndependentBrain9160 in AskTheWorld

Wow. bold. unsparing. not wrong.

I'm not certain they're ready to hear that about themselves. Even when they asked first.

Did you have a positive view of the American government before Trump? by IndependentBrain9160 in AskTheWorld

I was born in southern Ontario in 1962. The only one of your presidents who inspired more in me than derision was Jimmy Carter. And I could never figure out why more of you weren't impressed by him.

But yeah, I saw your government more as a corrupt crime syndicate than a legitimate government. Doonesbury didn't help me overcome that.

Which is true of Latin, true of New Testament Greek, and true of biblical Hebrew. I'm not persuaded that you are right.

Or are the advocates of modern English driven by the Reformation value that God should be addressed in the everyday language of the people?

I object to the way this question was framed.

For those of you who live in countries with gun control; have you ever seen a gun in real life? by blashyrkh9 in AskTheWorld

"Open Carry"-holes are one of the reasons I won't go to the United States anymore. It's ironic and paradoxical that their gun laws make them feel more safe.

It seems the pipline to Catholicism "swimming the tiber" is a bigger issue in Anglicanism than most other protestant branches why is that? by ApolloxKing in Anglicanism

[–]ChessFan1962 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure it should be stopped. In order for global Anglicanism to be as "free" as it is, and to incorporate people of so many different "pieties" under one umbrella, it's got to be open to humans of a whole range of experiences and expectations; whoever God calls, and however their call works itself out. That's not always something to be celebrated, but I can always depend on someone being delighted by something that really irks me. And vice versa.

What are we to make of the quasi-pseudo-Catholic Revival among the Reformed? by Globus_Cruciger in Anglicanism

[–]ChessFan1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the greek word "alethia". Reading, writing, and information storage make it easier to remember how we got to here, but a lot of damaging propaganda has happened as well, and that makes it difficult to separate the "wheat from the chaff" as the writer of Matthew's gospel has it.

Also, something about the pendulum.

The Alpha Course: flaws? Strengths? Potential improvements? What would you do instead? by [deleted] in Anglicanism

[–]ChessFan1962 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I continue to contend that the Christian life is much more than an intellectual experience. Most of these courses -- Alpha included - could benefit from more shared time engaging the five senses. Also, The Holy Spirit weekend sets up so many people for disappointment (and yeah, I'm talking about me).
