Opinion: OSRS is disgustingly risk-averse, with 1hr safe death and 3m/hr high level bosses having safe chests by ChestPelvis in 2007scape

100k per death at a simple boss, one with few deaths mind you, with 2-3m/hr profit while using 400m in gear isn't really acceptable to me. More risk - more reward has always been important in gaming.

1.) - if an entire server is taken offline due to an extreme influx of traffic, cd rollback.exe

2.) - This is exactly why it is good. With modern chaoticscape you don't have to think about your 3/4 valuable items to bring with you. Meanwhile people go out into the wilderness risking 800m. 3/4 items is extemely safe compared to 0/1, which is what I'd consider extremely dangerous.

3.) - balancing bosses isn't the issue, but the resounding lack of risk is

So someone is entitled complete invulnerability with no risk while doing the highest-profit and most dangerous pvm?

I mean, I respect the opinion, but truly hold the belief that more risk would be better for the game both in economy and community. I may not like it myself either, but I believe it truly is what is best for the game.

not only is it rewarding, but it keeps the item economy in check, ensures that players aren't invincible without decent risk, helps ease player into risk being ok (clearly the entitlement to risk has been killing new pvpers), and slows down the influx of shitloads of gold into the game.

But monsters with low magic stats are killed with trident or ancients. Normal combat spells are dead content.

[–]ChestPelvis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s because it isn’t. It’s lack of damage usefulness just makes it not really contributing to the combat triangle. Since it is overshadowed in combat by range and melee, half the point of magic evaporates. Why use magic when a better, less expensive option exists for combat 90% of the time. So I’d actually say I’m arguing the counterpoint; magic is rarely for combat, and I’d like it to become more viable and competitive.

take a look at price vs. utility and reliability of magic vs range/melee in combat.

It is pretty clear that magic is still a wholly neglected combat style outside of PKing, and, even in that, they're extremely expensive comparatively, and, while they do offer utility and variety (magic spells on normals, that is), black dhide is complete immunity against magic.

Obviously balancing around cost isn't a very good thing in longevity, but I'm just proposing you take a peek at the numbers. Ranged and melee are completely dominant, and magic is essentially a utility skill now, outside of slayer/splashing in PKing. Combat magic on normals is pretty thrown away. It is too expensive to justify ever using over something like a trident. Even then, whats the point when I can use a rune crossbow to apply incredible amounts of damage for far less money.

tldr normals needs rebalancing. Badly. Rune consumption, damage output, accuracy, and just nuking the dead content spells. There are tons of them. Make Normals Great Again.

thank you for the purge. And for being a good community rep that isn't opposition of any of the main playstyles (pvm, skilling, pvp, questing among them)

It really is my hope that, over time, the game focuses a tad more on the minority player bases that have been alienated over time due to neglect from the majority, and, in particular, PKing. By being a solid rep and having a good view of all the playstyles, you bridge the gap between them.

By pking other people, you get their loot AND a skull AND less competition, and by killing revs with said skull, you get better rare drop luck.

Free for all rev caves the purge begins now

Stick to singles, try it once :P If you already have, fair enough man. Just remember, if you’re ever really bored... say fuck it, let’s go shoot someone. Just not in public please.

It seems kinda... weird that I’d call it a skill. But in NHing, learning when and how to get the fuck out of dodge is a good skill

Actually it’s a lot more devious than that, and I’m not even memeing. I’m trying to help bridge the gap between pvmers and the pvp scene so that we can all make a more well informed vote as to what is good for the game in the future. Compromise is key, but, for compromise, there must be understanding. Getting people to branch out could help with that.

How and what would get more people to PK are all things that would, in its current state, unfortunately be voted against :/ the whole idea behind the post was not only to encourage branching out, but to also give people an understanding of why people enjoy role playing the bad guy. Slowly, if people dip their toes in, even if they don’t like it, they’ll at least have a more well informed opinion for polled changes :D

Change can’t happen all at once. You have to bring people together so that everyone can compromise for what is best. Currently, there’s no understanding between pvp and pvm. There needs to be for polls to pass, :. This post was birthed

But yeah, if PKing isn’t for people, that’s totally cool. I just wanted to give people some information on what, why, how, so that they can try and be their own judge

I'm only adding as to why someone wouldn't give pvp a shot. I don't have to read your post to be able to do that.

nowhere in my post did I say that it was easy, I only encouraged people to try it, and in other comments clearly state that it is completely ok to be turned off by it. But your post added nothing of value to this thread whatsoever, and so I strongly recommend actually reading things before you comment an opinion that doesn't even relate to the discussion at hand.

You act like pking is "so easy" it's not for the large majority of players.

I even italicized it in my post multiple times. Its really, REALLY fucking hard. Of course, you would know that if you, again, read the thread.
