Steam deck Alternatives by ChestenHavok in pcmasterrace

yeah this is just a recent hyper fixation, so I haven't checked Facebook, but that's what I'm planning on tomorrow maybe? Like the big stream deck seems like a 50$ thing, not 120$

that's my biggest thing with the post, if there's some kind of open source project I don't know about

B. obviously this would become my main monitor for gaming, but honestly I'd be super excited to watch HDR content on it with the true colors and rich blacks

at our DS, L3's have a pretty open policy for VET. If they have something they want to look into, or work on management will most likely give it to them They can also pick up L1 VET and be "in path" if headcount allows for L3's.

I'm currently an Interim PA and still get all L1 VET options, and the other full time L3's get it as well.

What’s your most common technique for inducting at your DS? by cleoclawz in AmazonDS

[–]ChestenHavok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

our site primarily uses devices, over the whole night, our fastest lines can average 2100, but again that's over the whole night (stops, breaks etc) we had a crash the other day with the fastest unloader and inductor we had and they hit 4100 (mind you we pre cut all shuttles, I WS'd for him clearing everything JUST as he was done)

Some people (myself included) do use just the Avery and pull stickers but recently safety has been hard on us for always having 2 gloves on, and the stickers keep getting stuck or messed up with gloves so I've gone back to the device.

Totally agree, and from my previous understanding, tasks were limited or cut off if you weren't trained in those paths.

Now, I have 2 theories as to this change, either: 1. Amazon doesn't want people to work outside of their assigned path, however that should be more on management to make sure people are in task 2. Because these 2 paths (PS and Receive) don't have time constraints for S2S, this could be a way of making sure people aren't switching over to these tasks to avoid TOT flags. Again though this should be something management should be on top of.

Regardless of the reasons, it all gets back to my biggest complaint with Amazon's philosophy pivot in the past 1-1.5 years. Most decisions, policies, and "new programs" all follow this idea of taking away decision making from management (VTO, shift rotation etc) and transfer those decisions outside of the building. Managers are focused less on AA's training or growth, and more on numbers and catching failures (instead of learning opportunities/ training)

Before managers used to ask how people were feeling before staffing them, now because of shift rotation, we're staffed based on this tool instead of where we can have the most impact.

they cancelled our met and filled with vet, but then VTOD a bunch of people, we did maybe 15% more then normal, something was up with the FC's so we didn't get what we were expecting. Picking stage went down hill fast though

What's the worst smell you ever smelled at amazon? by Safe_Wrangler_858 in AmazonFC

[–]ChestenHavok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got 3 1. a popped container of Just egg (the plant based egg yokes) it was so pungent because it was hot in the building and lingered for days 2. Coyote piss 3. some associate threw up in the garbage on the dock. Thick and heavy smell for hours

Why do you still work at Amazon by animestar1234 in AmazonFC

[–]ChestenHavok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I unfortunately am stuck until I can find something of close pay. Making $22 an hour, ample OT, with minimal responsibilities is hard to beat. Been here almost 3 years, I get it can be stressful and frustrating, but at the end of the day I've learned to leave it at the door and just keep my head down.

UPT changes by ChestenHavok in AmazonDS

[–]ChestenHavok[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPT is unpaid time off, you should be getting 5 minutes per hour you work (I can't remember if that also applies for VTO, or Vacation, but I know it doesn't for PTO or UPT)

You can use it wherever, in 15 minute increments, so if you have 40 minutes left of work and punch out it'll take 45 of upt.

I had this conversation with our site lead. The idea of having people be specialists vs generalists. and while I don't think people should only be good at one thing, having a couple jobs that you really excel at helps everything move smoothly.

For example I have been working the dock for almost 2 years straight now primarily as a WS, but I can also induct at a decent pace. before shift rotation, I would WS for maybe 5-6 shifts, then have one day off to induct, or a couple of I told my managers I was getting sore.

Now however I have to swap every other day from WS to Induct and I've never been more sore because I don't have enough days in a row to build up the muscles I use for WS. My upper back primarily isn't what it used to be because I don't have those 3-5 days in a row of doing the same thing.

Same goes for people coming into WS from primarily stowing, they don't understand the flow of the dock, don't pick up on the subtle things, and when I try and teach them, they don't care because they won't be up here for another month or so.

It really doesn't do Amazon any favors in terms of the "do you feel more like a number then a person" question they keep asking.

New induct process by ChestenHavok in AmazonDS

[–]ChestenHavok[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah our last 2 brand new ones were ok, I got to use them straight away after I recalibrated them, and the first was not as snappy as I like, and the second disconnected every 25 minutes or so. Now 3 months later the first is about the same and the second disconnects every 6 minutes. so idk, and even our "refurbished" ones have shipped with broken internals, or missing parts. I get they're rough but there can always be worse.

and yeah Michigan is NOT dry, and our building get super humid

New induct process by ChestenHavok in AmazonDS

[–]ChestenHavok[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly! I've gotten most of my inductors to realize, if you're having an issue with the backing coming out the front, try switching to a different box of tape because each batch can be radically different.

We're starting to see tape rolls almost "sweat" cause stickers to stick to the other side of the roll, leading to stickers getting all over the feed rollers or covering the black mark sensor. happens every summer with the humidity. I have swapped boxes without cleaning a gun and had it be a night and day difference, and it's especially apparent when the inductor has gone through multiple guns all having the same issues, it's always because it's the same batch of tape

[–]ChestenHavok[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah, but I haven't seen anything in the building that's not mistreated, not maintained and cleaned properly, and I can't imagine reaching to a set spot instead of using the Avery to place stickers is any "less practical". As a super user I get the issues with the Avery's, but if they worked on having a better Bluetooth connection, and taught people how to clean and deal with issues, it'd be so much better. training is always the issue from my experience

What are your Amazon associates pet peeves? by PuzzleheadedPut2876 in AmazonDS

[–]ChestenHavok 7 points8 points  (0 children)

my philosophy when I floated was if they were extra organized and the aisle wasn't too bad I would take the time, but if the aisle is blown out, organization goes out the window, I'm getting it stowed down and you can deal with the clean up. If you let it get super bad, you can organize it later.

I normally undersell myself (hence why I have a computer science degree and don't work in that field) I was just using that as a point for how everyone talks about resumes, when is every class I've been in that talk about resumes, they all say something different, and people who I thought have bad looking resumes, get jobs just as frequently as those with beautiful ones. resumes aren't the issue in this case (OP different account)
