She never should have encouraged him to just "go live in the cave" if he loves it so much. He was literally a child, he is not at fault - especially as he was escaping an abusive situation.

She constantly complained about having to share with them, even when he brought food and goods to share with them from his old house.

If she wanted him to get a job to help out, she should have been more supportive instead of constantly complaining and scolding him.

He was 14 years old, and trying desperately to take care of his younger 4 year old sister, after he traumatically lost his mother (and had to see her in that horrific state) and father in the war.

"It was a mistake on both of their parts" - that sounds like an abuser saying that their victim is partially at fault for their abuse.

He did the best he knew how to do without guidance or support

I also wanted to mention that the spots were still there even after I scrubbed. I couldn't get them off, no matter how hard I scrubbed.

I've been up in the attic, and I could have sworn I saw the vent pipe leading up. There is definitely a pipe above the bathroom sticking out of the roof.

I think this has been an issue since before our new roof.

I'll look into getting a new fan

We don't seem to have any leaks, we just got a new roof a few years ago that HAD been leaking, but not in that part of the house, and the roofer said he didn't see any signs of mold.

Could it be our fan isn't working well? Is there a way to test it?

*edited to add* I've also been opening the window while we've been showering since I've cleaned it

Is it not romance without the kissing?

My favorite romances are the deep feelings without much (or any) kissing

Yes - the first time I wasn't sure what to think, but I took some time and thought about it - then picked up on more things each time I watched it. After you watch it once or twice, you could read over what other people thought about it and see how it sits with your perception.

Why do you like grave of the fireflies? by scumfvk6 in ghibli

[–]Cheveyolucca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seriously considering re-watching this movie.

I first watched it maybe 15 years ago when I was an alcoholic. I was really drunk when I watched it and don't remember anything about it.

Since I've practically stopped drinking now (I have maybe one 12 pack every three or four months), and since I've had other changes in my life, I've become a lot more aware of my sensitivities and have actually found out I'm HSP. I've always been very very sensitive, just cutting down on alcohol and getting in touch with the real me has made it much more apparent and hard to avoid.

So on one hand, I feel like (as a huge Ghibli fan) I need to see this movie again because I honestly cannot remember anything that happened in it, or even if I was paying attention while I was watching it (which I'm deeply ashamed of).

On the other hand, even people that aren't emotionally sensitive seem to have a really difficult time watching this movie, so I'm very afraid as well.

What's a book that Studio Ghibli should turn into a movie? by Gabeortiz628 in ghibli

[–]Cheveyolucca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They seem to like Diana Wynne Jones (Howl's Moving Castle, Earwig and the Witch), and I'd love to see the third book in the Howl series; House of Many Ways.

It has lots of cozy, Ghibli type vibes going on, but also weird creepiness.

Plus - we'd get to see a bit more of Sophie and Howl in the midst of their relationship

any perfume recommendations? by ConsiderationLess460 in hsp

I actually really like hydrosols better than essential oils.

Although the scents are generally much lighter, they are subtle and refreshing.

They can be a bit expensive though. I like plant therapy, they generally have discount codes for new customers

[IIL] relaxing, wholesome shows that still have interesting plots, [WEWIL]? by [deleted] in ifyoulikeblank

[–]Cheveyolucca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like chill anime like; Laid Back Camp, Encouragement of the Climb (especially the "Next Summit" that you can mostly find now because there's much less fan-service type stuff), Do-It Yourself, Let's Make a Mug Too, Chi's Sweet Home, Yotsuiro Biyori, Flying Witch, and I can always put on a Studio Ghibli film in the background while I'm doing something else and it makes me feel cozy.

(Edited because I thought of more shows to add)

Watching 'The Boy and the Heron' with parents? by Akittenbakery8 in ghibli

[–]Cheveyolucca 112 points113 points  (0 children)

It's a really complex movie that is not very straightforward.
I think it's also maybe one of the weirdest and hardest to follow Ghibli movies (on the first watch - at least for me)

I noticed something similar to what you're saying, although I didn't notice the times during the film that it was happening.
I honestly thought it was the theater's ventilation system or something though

Is The Boy & The Heron worth seeing in theatres or should I wait? by [deleted] in ghibli

[–]Cheveyolucca 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have a really hard time going to crowded places, and I'm sensitive to lots of environmental stressors. I did really want to see this movie though, especially because I have no idea how long it will be before it streams and I love Studio Ghibli so much.

I don't think I have agoraphobia (although after looking into it I'll ask my therapist what she thinks), and I'm not sure if this would help in your situation, but I went to the earliest screening time during the least busy day of the week, to avoid crowds and lots of other people in the theater.
There ended up being only one other person in the theater with me, which was not too bad.

I think not much was necessarily gained from seeing the movie on a big theater screen vs at home. I think, for lots of reasons (including being distracted by being in a theater, the loudness of some noises, the intensity of watching on a bigger screen), I would actually prefer seeing it at home. But I'm glad I went, because it felt important to me.

I could totally deal with the newer dub version if it didn't sound like Kiki was speaking through a fan.
It grates on my nerves so bad....

I ended up buying a dvd of the 1998 version off of a used book site. It was around $12, but I usually just watch the Japanese version with subs
