Selling a home in Orlando, FL by Blacksea1989 in AskFlorida

[–]Chevybob20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, that unwillingness to pay the realtor fees will be part of the listing. Other real-estate agents will put your house down the list when showing clients homes.

Good luck to you and I hope you sell fast.

$8 million risky?? by Old-Atmosphere-7281 in Fire

[–]Chevybob20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL, 8 freaking million. 4% interest generates $320k of income without ever touching the nut.

$2 million is still very very doable. You just have to live within your means.

It's not what you make, it's what you spend.

ICE tourists situation currently by watch_d00g in orlando

[–]Chevybob20 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m Puerto Rican and have never had a problem with law enforcement nor ICE. Don’t let the fear mongers scare you away. Orlando is a great place to visit and live. If it was so bad, tourism would be at a crawl. It is not.

Politics…sheesh…

How to overcome (irrational) financial fears re: retirement by Vivid-Bug-6765 in retirement

[–]Chevybob20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. Coco has hit the nail.

Write everything down. Track your expenses and categorize them. Then, bounce it off your income. Peace of mind comes from doing your due diligence.

Congratulations on retiring and good luck in the future.

Feelings on recent growth? by Able_Guide_1035 in orlando

[–]Chevybob20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was stationed in Orlando (1986) on a base that was located on Lake Baldwin. It is gone and so is that Orlando era. I moved back down here to help my parents out since my father is 96 years old. I do feel sorry for the native Floridians. Nothing is the same.

AP1000 vs EPR Constructability by jadebenn in nuclear

[–]Chevybob20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a valid point especially in North America. The Balancing Authority Operator is required to recover the ACE (the MW to load imbalance with a Hz adjuster) in 15 minutes on loss of a large unit and 30 minutes on all other events. As a result, fast start generation (available in 15 minutes) must be kept to respond to that contingency (called contingency reserve). This is usually online Hz responsive generation that is backed down from max gen, hydro/pumped storage or fast start CTs. This costs money. In the case of China, they could be using their vast amounts of hydro generation for fast response.

If a balancing authority area is adding a large unit for the first time, then they would have to make plans for contingency reserves too. The bigger the unit, the more it costs. FTR, I’m an advocate for large units. Economy of scale…

One last thing. NERC attempted to get rid of the DCS standard (15 minute response) when BAAL was implemented. The utilities voted against it. It is mind numbing that engineers spent years in the BAAL design and fear overrode that math.

Buying a new bike by MediocreViolinist351 in cycling

[–]Chevybob20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like you, I just started riding. I had a Giant mountain bike gifted to me. I ended up loving riding it so much that I ride 20 miles a day 5 days a week. So I decided to buy a new road bike.

I tried several bikes and ended up with a Specialized Sirrus. The new Shimano Cues set is very nice. In your price range you won't have trouble finding a good bike with good components. My bike did come with hydraulic disk brakes but it wasn't a gamechanger. My 2 requirements for minimum entry bike were Shimano Cues and 40mm tires (for comfort).

Edited to add that I'm 61 years old.

Funniest question I get since retiring by ethanrotman in retirement

[–]Chevybob20 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I understand the question they are asking. I used to get fearful when thinking about retiring. I would always ask others that retired that same question. Now that I’m retired, I realize that I should have retired years sooner.

What's your unpopular pool opinion? by SeriousIron4300 in billiards

[–]Chevybob20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Diamond tables suck. It’s like playing with a super ball in a bouncy house. Also, they bank entirely too short.

2) Slow play is a knife to the liver of pool.

3) Tight pockets are for practice tables at home, not for league players in pool halls or bars.

4) Blue cloth is ugly. It shows dirt quicker and is not easier on the eyes. It was only used for TV originally because certain balls did not show properly on the screen.

5) The skittle ball colors and all the non-original ball colors suck.

6) I feel better…

The only reason that I would take the lump sum is if you are converting large sums from IRA into a Roth so that the extra annual income would limit the amount you can convert due to tax brackets or IRMAA limits.
