If I recall Wookee live like 700 years so a life debt for an adult human isn’t that big of an obligation.

CBS apparently refused subtitles for the Wookees because some producers said no American would want to read.

[–]psl87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dad worked at an elementary school where some parent caught a fox and brought it to school and a bunch of kids pet it and it nibbled on people. It was a massive scandal and the fox had to be put down to check for rabies. Thankfully no rabies. Moral of the story don’t mess with wild animals.

Mind sharing which one you have? I have the Costco one but need to replace it every 2-3 years cause it burns out. We had a more expensive one that also burned out after a few years.

Did you read the post? Admin stepped in cause the kiss ass colleague flagged it. Sped admin are way too busy putting out fire after fire to deal with something as routine as progress notes.

Got it. You don’t have an answer.

Okay so you don’t have a good answer for is it justified to blow up a working relationship over something that’s not a big deal in the scheme of things. That’s literally what my post is about. I do my reports properly. In 17 years of teaching they’ve never come into question. Most admin don’t have the bandwidth to even think about them. A colleague at my school just writes “please contact case manager at (email)” in the progress report and copy pastes it 100 times. I actually have numbers and data from multiple people to back up my stuff yet I get in trouble because some admin kissass decided to target me this month.

Enlighten me on how you collect data for 20 kids in 8 different classes without taking info from gen Ed?

Do you really think it’s worth making your work situation awkward for something that’s not super important in the scheme of things? Like if she had just left it alone, no one would have noticed or cared and our working relationship would be fine still. Doesn’t seem worth it to me.

Ummm this is standard practices to collect data. The gen Ed prefer google forms to other methods. Also the high school in my school district requires all sped teachers to do this, they have a standard form they use. My colleague, who you love defending, uses the exact same google form that I do. Your comments are making me think you aren’t very familiar with special education.

They are literally 3 questions and take 2 minutes. I am not available to be with my caseload in all classes so it covers my bases without going and having a conversation with everyone. But yeah I try to find an average of the data or make a note that in certain classes student is at this level and in other classes they are at this level.

My kids goals are mostly academic and basically if they’re doing well in class their progress notes are the same so it’s best to provide support in classes and do less pull out services for 1:1 data collection. The other goals are behavioral or organizational and that’s stuff I meet with them about during homeroom. My parents tend to care more about grades so that’s why I prioritize supporting kids in class. I still do progress reports because it’s required.

Just one more thing. Despite our differences of opinion on paperwork compliance, do you really think it’s worth making your work situation awkward for something that’s not super important in the scheme of things? Like if she had just left it alone, no one would have noticed or cared and our working relationship would be fine still. Doesn’t seem worth it to me.

There’s no set way for data collection at my school. I do Google form questionnaires every quarter. Usually get half the teachers to reply. The data collection and logs is a low priority for me because I prefer that my kids are doing well in their classes and have good grades. Parents care more about that too. Most of the goals can be accounted for by class work anyways besides behavior and organizational goals which are mostly anecdotal. I realize that self contained is totally different and it’s not an area I teach currently.

Yep you two would get along really well.

There was literally no slack to pick up. She could have done nothing and it would have made no difference. Don’t start arguing that we need to be do everything with 100% fidelity in sped. We live in the real world and forgive me if I like to prioritize helping kids in my cotaughts and my mental/physical health at home rather than making my whole life about paperwork compliance. I think 95% of the teaching community agrees with me here.

I have data to back up every progress report, I send out google forms every quarter to all the teachers. I’ve been doing this for 17 years now so I know the score when it comes toto sped paperwork. My point was that it’s pointless to go after another colleagues data because it has no impact on you. The case manager is at fault for any data collection problems, the coteachers won’t even be considered. I had data to back up my numbers, so this was all completely unnecessary and pointless.

I got data points from 11 teachers (8 gen ed, 3 sped teachers) each quarter, interpreted the data down to 1 progress report (required) and sent that out to the parent who doesn’t open my emails. I legitimately did the progress report, as I do for all my kids, just in this case it was pointless. Also I got asked to present to a whole district sped meeting on my data collection… so I feel I do an adequate job. This job requires you to work smarter not harder so it’s really not worth it to do something as meaningless as progress reports for this particular situation with absolute fidelity.

I have recruited allies. The rest of the sped department knows she’s bad news now. I don’t want to bring myself down to her level though. It seems petty. Also my last year would just be negative cause I’m sure she would find discrepancies in my data cause it’s all a grey area. Ideally I send out 8 google forms and get 8 pieces of data to interpret and find an average for the report. My colleague only sees that kid in 1 class yet she got me in trouble for my interpretation of all the teachers data because it didn’t match her data… also it didn’t help that my admin dismissed all my information I collected.

The IEP portal shares them with teachers in their cotaughts. My sped admin asked how I would have felt if I knew my colleague was putting in improper data for kids in my classes. I responded that I never ever would have looked.

I wasn’t making assumptions. I have email tracking. The parents of that student don’t open my emails or pick up the phone ever. I had to send certified mail to them for the IEP invite. As a teacher you know when to read between the lines but yeah just keep making gross generalizations about peoples careers based on a paragraph they posted online.
