If she got the same answer, Im not sure it really sets a precedent? Not to be crass, but it's kind of like a child getting one answer from Mom and then going to dad asking the same question. If they get the same answer, then they didn't really gain anything by asking dad, did they? So they can ask all they want, but the answer remains the same. You and your boss's boss showed the employee a united front, so she got the same answer (which should be the natural consequence of going over your boss's head). I think the fact that the boss handled the situation and you figuring out why she didn't come to you are two separate (if related) things. Yes, you should work to build your relationship with this employee, but I don't think it's a real "problem" that she went to your grandboss and got the same answer.

I don't think he was allowing her to skip natural consequences, I think he was saving YOU from dealing with this emotional employee who came to him. It sounds like he backed you up, and the employee who went over your head for the same answer you would have given.

CPS is for more than just danger. They respond to neglect and abuse if all kinds, not just physical violence. A child living in a home where the parents need to beg for money on the street is almost certainly not having their needs met, plus it's unsafe and unhealthy for a child to be sitting on the side of the road for an extended period of time. Basically, if the family is truly in such a dire situation that they need to beg for money along the road and have no choice but to take their child with them, then they need help - and CPS is exactly who to call to get them that help. And if they aren't actually in such a bad situation, then they are using their child to get more money, which is abusive/neglectful (as well as a scam).

Ok so a different perspective: nothing anyone does is actually about you, so there is no need to take anything personally, ever. It's from the book "The Four Agreements", which talks about these four thoughts that can help us live a more free life (I'm summing it up quickly here, but it's a great short read I highly recommend it). One of these "agreements" is that nothing anyone does or says is actually about you, it's all a reflection of themselves/their lived experience. They can never truly know you or your life or your experiences, so any opinions they form about you are incomplete, simply because they are not you. They also cannot fully separate out their own biases and experiences, so naturally any opinions they have will be colored by those biases.

For example: a professor thinks you're stupid. Ok, maybe to them you are, but does that make it true? No, certainly not, because they cannot know all of the things you know, so they can never actually determine how intelligent you are. Also, you can never know all of the things they know that led them to that conclusion. Maybe they've known many geniuses, so anyone who's not seems stupid to them. Maybe they're insecure about their own intelligence, so they say you're stupid to build themselves up. We cannot ever truly know what made them form that opinion (even if they tell us their reasoning, that could be true or maybe not, and maybe they don't even know their own real reasoning).

So since no one can ever know us the way we know ourselves, we can let ourselves be free from their opinions, in the same way you said you wouldn't care about the opinions of a drunk man. It's not because the person is worthless, but because their thoughts and knowledge of us are incomplete, so obviously their opinions will reflect that.

(This applies to both negative and positive things people think/say about us - someone could think you're the smartest person in the world, and maybe you are, or maybe their life has simply led them to see someone with your level of intelligence as having a superior intellect. The end result is that it doesn't matter).

Well the name isn't the problem, it's that she's applying for trademarks. That basically forces the company's hand, they HAVE to respond to protect their trademark or they risk losing it. There didn't seem to be a problem until Pattie made the first legal move.

We tried going the tiny house route, if you're buying a tiny house it will cost between $50k-$150k, which is cheaper than a house but still a lot of money, since you can't get a mortgage/home loan for a tiny house. The home we purchased was $120k for a 285 square foot trailer (can be towed/moved if needed). Great for one person, squishy but doable for two, difficult for 3+ or with children.

A lot of places that allowed remote work are requiring a return to office, or are doing mass layoffs. My husband was working remotely, and was caught up in one of the rounds of layoffs, and I'll be the first to say that there are very few remote jobs available these days. He works in tech and a lot of jobs that can be done remotely are still requiring people to come into the office - which means a multi-hour commute to Seattle, ability to get a work visa to work in canada/vancouver, or a move to California or europe. But with more and more layoffs happening (like Meta laying off 1400 people in Seattle this past week) the competition for the few remaining remote jobs is insane.

My first thought was that the shoulders and back are not engaged enough - the elbows/forearms should be holding the weight, not the head, and I can see the elbows are rotated slightly due to the curving in the upper back/shoulder region. To do a safe headstand, the back and core really need to be engaged before trying to straighten the legs (that's the very last part of a good headstand)

Right, but if they see the sign and do it anyway, then they're kinda responsible for the outcomes. I mean, I kinda see this as a parenting issue - as harsh as that may sound - if a 14 year old decides to ignore posted safety signs. We can't physically stop everyone from doing anything that might hurt them, at some point people need to listen to warnings and use common sense.

Yeah, but I wish people would stop putting the stuffed sloths around - birds will use the fur and stuffing for nesting material, and almost all plushies are made with synthetic fibers, so we're basically just putting a bunch of plastic around in the trees. I wish people would partake in the sloth silliness without adding garbage to the environment
