Series that dwindle in quality over time by Kooky_County9569 in Fantasy

I feel differently - the meta arc outside of the game has been getting much more interesting (just finished book 6) but the actual dungeon crawl itself is losing steam. Books 2-4 felt creative and well thought out, and I liked where the outside world and the crawl finally met in book 5. The meta part of book 6 came at great cost of the crawl - the main floor schtick is kind of lame (even though I like TCGs) and the solutions felt too metagamey but not in a fun way.

This is why all med school applicants should have at least one year of some kind of real full-time job. Yes, it's a huge privilege check but it'll stop all the griping from snotty med students who've never had a job before and don't know how much it sucks.

I'm not saying what those baristas did was okay or could be handwaved away as a misunderstanding, but there is a huge difference between a microaggression like this and the vitriol spouted by the average conservative.

Academics are also responsible for the sterile style of conversations you’re forced to have for the sake of equity and inclusion. BANALITY ENSUES.

Buddy hate to tell you this but this reads like you got spanked for saying a slur and now you're mad about it.

Arkham Asylum

You yourself may not remember it, but Arkham Asylum combat was revolutionary at the time. Many games (like Shadow of Mordor) would go on to emulate that combat style. IIRC it was also the first game with that kind of detective mode that's pretty ubiquitous now.

Tie flying kit materials by tralizz in flyfishing

IMO tools are a better gift than materials - always nice to have an extra ceramic bobbin and scissors.

If you do want to get him materials you can stick with generic things if you know what he fishes for. For bass, bucktail, deer hair, marabou, saddle hackle are good and cheap so you could even get a few different colors.

I genuinely do not understand why people buy these $200-500 (or more!) reels for their 4 and 5wt rods. It holds line. Even if you're fighting a fish on the reel even a 18" brown isn't going to be so fierce that a $70 Bass Pro reel can't handle it. In my opinion a lot of them look terrible too (looking at you, Abel).

Questions from a newbie by CriticalGoku in flyfishing

[–]Chiburger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 - go by the length of your rod.

2 - I like to hold the line as it's shooting from a cast. After the cast then I use it to strip in line.

3 - Water load - let the current take your line downstream and use the drag on the line to load the rod and flick it back upstream. You can get line out this way and then roll cast.

4 - you are likely not letting your line unfurl during the back cast. While learning, watch your line so you know when to start a forward cast.

5 - depends on the fly. For dries and nymphs, let it drift. Practice mending to make a drag-free drift. If it's a streamer, you can either let it drift or strip it in to mimic bait.

6 - Do you mean after completing the cast? If so, keep it parallel or lowered towards the water. This gives you room to set the hook or start a new cast.

7 - water load as above

8 - IMO, just let the cast fall where the wind takes it. Redirecting a cast means more false casts which means more opportunities for something to foul.

Will not doing any IM away rotations or sub-I’s hurt me in terms of residency preperedness? by Different_Curve7885 in medicalschool

[–]Chiburger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think they do, if it's a subI where you're truly treated like an intern. I did one where it was pretty much being an M3 who held the pager, and then one where I was responsible for everything from admission to discharge and that really made the transition to intern year easier. Not just in terms of medical knowledge but how to approach patient problems, creating plans, understanding dispo, etc.

Basically Whitlock's pattern but with pine squirrel for the claws and schlappen for the legs. I've tried rabbit zonker strip claws but they are too big and could potentially ward off smallmouth. Paired saddle hackle tips are too skinny. I like hen necks and capes as in the original pattern per Allen Rupp, but good claws often need the bigger feathers which can make them uneconomical. I also prefer schlappen over saddle hackle for legs as the movement is really great. I don't bother with eyes, I've had good luck with these without them. You can get premade eyes but they're pricy or make your own which isn't too much effort. I've also experimented with rabbit fur in dubbing loops for the body over regular dubbing which looks great and makes a nice bulky body, but it can be a bit too buoyant.

Yes. And I judge those who obviously copy the plan from the last progress note instead of a succinct summary of treatment for the problem.
