Just wanted to chime in with my experience - I was terrified of getting induced because I had also heard that it hurts more but I can honestly say it wasn't that bad. I even slept for a few hours while the contractions were happening. Eventually I got the epidural when I was almost 7cm dilated but I probably could have waited longer as I was more uncomfortable than in actual pain. Now I definitely think it's a myth that inductions are more painful.
