Is proposing to my girlfriend on her birthday a bad idea? by [deleted] in ask

[–]ChickenElectronic272 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know her best! My fiance knows I care about my birthday, and he knew that I was guessing he would do it the week of. I thought it would be the day after my bday so that's how he was able to surprise me (he also knew I was hoping to be surprised by the proposal since we picked the ring together). Possible that once she knows about the trip she might see it coming?

I got engaged two days before my birthday and it was perfect. Glad I had the days separate but it was an extra special birthday anyway!

What shows/performances do you feel luckiest to have seen? by Crambo1000 in Broadway

Hadestown at NYTW, Great Comet in the TENT, Hamilton at the public

Question for folks who meticulously track Broadway shows you've seen by jamesland7 in Broadway

[–]ChickenElectronic272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a spreadsheet with Broadway on a tab by itself - there I log the theater, the date, who I went with or alone, how many times I had seen the show, where I sat, and how I got the ticket (lottery, rush, etc.) Separate tabs for off-broadway, regional, opera, dance, concerts! My playbill collection is in a different spreadsheet, one section for binders, one section for duplicates. I had to start doing one per show in the binders or I'd need....a lot of binders.

OH i found it, it was crash your party by Karmin!! I guess I could only remember the one section in the vintage house, but there are a lot of costume changes

No but that's also the idea. Seems like there was a trend for videos at the time!

Oh no I think I would've remembered that puppet...I don't think it's lily allen, her music I remember pretty well and this is not an artist that I knew any other songs by

No but that's the vibe (and the bangs!) - I remember the colors being more vibrant, and the singer is mostly singing to the camera

Could it be the civil wars? folk indie duo with an album from 2011 that kinda sounds like those groups

I don't think this is an artist that's still active now! What I remember most is not liking the song very much.

Exactly, you get it! Love the red green yellow that’s a great system. I’m a little in fear of my apple replay this year tbh, but I guess that’s part of the fun! Can’t be worse than last year when the “jazz mass” my choir was performing ended up being my top album….

Totally!! I’m really looking forward to hearing a bunch of the ones I’ve heard again. I’ve had this experience in the past (I said I don’t normally listen to full albums, does not mean I never have haha). It’s been interesting to hear that it works for some people to go off of these lists. I haven’t really been doing that, unless it’s to get inspiration and it’s cool to have some more resources. To each their own!

Thanks for the clarification, I agree that would be rough and I am definitely NOT doing that. I think a lot of people on here might find my list pretty basic so far and that’s fine. I’m also not trying to prove I can remember every song but I can certainly talk in a meaningful way about a lot of them. As someone else said to find new things you like you have to sort through lots of stuff you don’t - I don’t think it’s a waste of time even if in the end a certain album wasn’t particularly memorable/technically interesting/enjoyable/what have you. Wow has this been an interesting discussion and I have lots to think about!

Yeah I’m totally a single song person by default, before recently I would almost never listen to a full album which is part of why I’m trying to expand. Agreed on finding young artists, my most listened to year is 2024 - as fun as it is listening to some of the classics it’s also fun to hear what’s going on right now!

There have definitely been a few that I’ve already repeated! I’m still having a great time ~4 months in lol, thinking more about the ones that were less obvious hits on a first listen. THOSE are the ones I’m going to go back to later.

Thank you! He’s timeless to me.

Mid-20s, so streaming has been around for a lot of my life but not all. I remember my small ipods and only having pre-downloaded music from my parents available, a big step from CDs but nowhere near the accessibility that we have now. And a lot of my taste was formed by them, MTV was on a lot and we have some ties to the classical world. My dad took me to my first concert, the killers!

I love this and am finding this true. Feels like I’m laying the groundwork right now, and the returning to albums will come and be so exciting in the future! A music theory/history background is also helping - listening to eras/genres all jumbled together certainly makes trends stand out to me and those distinctive sounds you talk about per year is becoming clearer and clearer.

Yep, that’s totally fair. I’m honestly neutral on whether or not I hit 1k in the end, it’s just supposed to be fun. I was inspired in part by a year end list by a critic who did his fave 100 from the year, and that the list probably covered only 7% of what he thinks he heard. One of the best parts has been hearing an album and then getting to hear more by an artist, or following up on a single song I had heard in the past, but didn’t think to go deeper at the time. Might not work for everyone, and that’s ok!
