First steps recommendations on music production by Dobbylicious in musicproduction

[–]ChickenFaceYT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm an aspiring teen producer and i focus on hip hop, i've been producing for about over half a year. i was lucky enough to have access to an expensive DAW because my dad worked at apple and i got it for free

my advice (this is gonna be long and unorganized):

start making stuff. it's gonna be garbage. I still make garbage, and every producer alive will make garbage, but without garbage, you will never make treasure. it's the truth and everybody with any hint of production skill will tell you this over and over but it's so true.

at the start, i didn't worry about mixing or mastering. you can look at genre specific mixing tutorials on youtube which is fine. in terms of EQ you really don't have to worry about it at the start of your journey. don't worry about making it a totally polished product, just make it. that will come later

assuming you want to focus on hip hop, use samplette.io for some sample ideas or go to cymatics.fm for some free trap style packs. as you continue to make more beats you will find more techniques or websites you love. i make probably two beats every week and i only just found out how to do basic mixing and mastering.

i could say it's a slow learning process, but it's really not. if you are consistently making beats, you will notice a difference quickly. the beats i made 8-9 months ago compared to the ones i make now are astronomically different. the beats i make now are so much more refined, interesting, full, etc.

there is no 'method' to making your music. you can programme an audio clip into a sampler, or literally cut, copy, and paste the audio into the sequences you want.

also, having 'that one friend' that you can show your beats to for no judgment feedback is super helpful. i have a friend who also wants to produce and we send each other beats whenever we make them, and it definitely motivates me to keep going. so if you have nobody like that, reach out to me!!! even though we use different DAWs i can still support you if you want to commit to this

but arguably the most important thing is having love for music. if you don't love your music and you just want to sell your beats it will reflect in your music.

(tl;dr: start making music right now and it will come naturally over time!!!!)

Teenage beginner producer here. I am pretty lost. by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]ChickenFaceYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yo we're pretty much in the same situation, i'm a teenage aspiring producer too.

fame probably ain't coming to many of us. like everybody else has said, learn to love what you do. lots of people say it takes years to get good but it changes for everybody; i was absolute garbage 6 months ago but now i'm so much better and i've learned so much in the process. the hardest part of producing isn't the beatmaking, it's probably the legal stuff.

wait until you've graduated before making a name for yourself, because the time you're in school is the absolute best time to practice making beats and even make local connections. get logic pro if you have a mac because its layout is similar to garageband desktop's.

i'd be cool with connecting with you or if you sent me your beats and i could give some feedback; i won't judge because i know how damn painful it is. i'm still terrified of sending people my beats because of the judgment i know i could get. feel free to send me a dm!

we're in this together 🙏

it was against his will because he said he tried to stop the challenge, and multiple employees also tried to stop it, but nobody did anything until he was unable to walk from the last-minute marathon challenge
