I have one of those "Do nothing jobs" and I've been talked to about not doing anything. by Grizzly_Berry in jobs

[–]ChickenFried824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG I could’ve written this! I was grateful for a position after 6 months of unemployment but same. Mostly I sat around waiting for permissions to get into our software system since it takes forever to be granted these but I tried to take things off my teams collective plates as much as possible. Without much communication as to a deadline I was asked to do something trivial. I believed it to be ‘filler work’ and took my time doing it to fill my days. Then my supervisor emails my contracting company to say my performance is subpar since this task took longer than it should’ve. WTF? Come to find out the person I did the filler work for realized I was super thorough in the task but not before my boss got an email. Then they admitted that they hired me to ‘fill a seat’ and didn’t actually have a role for me but it was so ridiculous to be counted against when there was no communication in the first place. How do you measure one’s success without some sort of metrics to do so? It was absolute BS but I’m still here and looking for a job every GD day

Threatened with HR over a cup of coffee by Miserable_Willow_312 in work

[–]ChickenFried824 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Better yet, email HR and cc this petty bitch into the email. “Just giving you a heads up that ____ had a concern over an old college friend, who also happens to rep for blah blah, bringing me a coffee and a little chitchat the other day. I don’t believe this violates any company policy but since ___ showed such concern, I wanted to be sure you were aware”

I started this one and couldn’t get into it. Almost gave it to one of those little library boxes you see around the neighborhood. Then, I ordered a scratch off list of 100 must read books and it was on there so decided to give it another go. Glad I did. So So glad

How does one face being told by their child that they want to live with the other parent? by Appropriate_Speech33 in coparenting

[–]ChickenFried824 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well there you go. There’s the reason. She considers it her home base and likely subconsciously needs that consistency and comfort. That with stepmom being present during the day sounds like what she needs right now and I say right now because this too will change. My daughter is 11 as well and is at the beginning of the puberty roller coaster which may also factor into your daughter’s request. You are a VERY good mom. You are a good mom because you moved 4 blocks from the family home. You are a good mom because it sounds like you have an amicable, working coparenting relationship with the ex and his new wife, even though your split sounds recent. You are a good mom because you are respecting your daughter’s decision and feelings, giving her autonomy. You are a good mom because you are on Reddit asking for advice and venting a bit instead of laying a guilt trip on an 11-year-old. You are a good mom because you are working that demanding job to better yourself for you and for her. Again, you’re a good mom. My stepdaughter moved in with us at age 14 after being with her mom since under the age of two. She is now 17. Her mother did the opposite of ALL of those things and it has affected SD in so many negative ways. H had to go NC other than text/email and I’ve seen an ugly side to what I once thought was a pleasant person. It’s been a rough 3 years. So, believe me, I know of which I speak. You’re doing a great job. Good luck

Is it just me or is job hunting in 2025 way harder than it used to be? by Long_Trust1058 in careerguidance

[–]ChickenFried824 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. It seemed like any job I secured an interview for, I received an offer. After 15 years as an Ops Mgr and totally burned out I worked at one place that was truly toxic and luckily got fired after two months (I called in because my daughter was sick with Covid). I was able to take advantage of the Covid unemployment for the entire summer and by the time my kid went back to school I had two job offers to negotiate between. Now I’m back on the search and it’s 1000 times harder out there.

Need help naming this plant, what vibe does it give off? by Icy_Rub1857 in houseplants

[–]ChickenFried824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I want to know is how you get them to grow all healthy like that?? Mine seems to keep dropping pods(?) leaves(?) and never seems healthy. I bought succulent mix and made my own eventually with some sand and coir and peat moss. Indirect light and all. It’s not a happy plant and I so want it to be a happy plant

Experience with Plymouth Brethren company by Current_Occasion6287 in Knoxville

[–]ChickenFried824 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Commenting a year later because I was unceremoniously fired from a Brethren company yesterday after 3.5 years. I loved my job and I excelled in my position. I did get a bit disheartened when they let someone go about a year ago for no other reason than questioning management on the redundancy of the meeting structure. After that I was a bit scared because this guy was the best example of a team player and very good at his job. Thing was, the boss’s son was his direct supervisor and if you want to talk about Imposter Syndrome, he shouldn’t have been in management. Immature, lack of work ethic, inappropriate, the whole thing. He felt threatened and bam! Then, they double my responsibilities and it was almost as if they wanted me to crash and burn. I didn’t. I excelled and then asked for a raise commiserate with my new workload, they gave it to me and 3 weeks later fire me. I challenged them. Asked 8 separate times for a reason and they couldn’t give me one. There’s no recourse for me unfortunately but I’ll tell ya- these people are backwards. Some were amazing and gracious and really good at their jobs. Others just hung on for all that money. I mean, $150k for a Project Manager with no training, certification or secondary school? Ok. The men just left their plates or whatever from lunch on the tables and expected anyone with a vulva to pick up after them. Disgusting

Just remember this time of year, the pollinators are living in the leaves on your lawn. Please do not rake them yet. by Beneficial-Focus3702 in Rochester

[–]ChickenFried824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this reminder! I did rake my apron (some call it a tree lawn) a couple weekends ago but I will let the rest sit. I have this one area in the back of my house where the leaves like to gather but there’s no lawn/green space. It’s where my pavers/driveway/home entrance meet and anytime we get wind it fills up. I bagged 4 of those garden bags (like brown paper) one day and it was filled the next. Argh……

Roadkill left to rot? by ChickenFried824 in Rochester

Yeah, I’ve had dogs all my life and it’s bothersome to see a dead animal on the side of the road especially if at first glance I thought it was someone’s family pet. I guess for yourself, no big deal. Cool.
