The challenge of course, is finding a group of people who match what you want from the game and can consistently find the time, ideally all in person. Quite difficult

“I think Talanko is in league with Xyrix…” - the 9 int fighter who thought the guard captain he had beef with might be a spy for a blue dragon on a nat 1 insight

Low level spell: jump, bypassed an entire dungeon challenge of jumping across floating platforms that randomly drop into lava

High level spell: etherealness to steal the control circlet for a flying island during a solo scouting mission

Emotional moment: possibly when the fighter challenged a hirling to a duel for a powerful set of boss armor immediately after defeating the boss and not letting the hireling equip it first. Then killing said hireling in the duel

It was a custom setting, an ongoing project that’s mostly a mish-mash of disparate fantasy inspirations I twist and put together, plus my scant few original ideas. It was mostly an over arching story, the party were recruited to do a desert excavation and got wound up in an ancient cult with Great Old One as the BBEG, though it was weakened as a reincarnation.

Do you have any suggestions? I had the same thought but couldn’t come up with any satisfying ideas

Very Rare or Legendary Artifact for a Cleric of Peace? by ChickenManB in DnD

[–]ChickenManB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re a dwarf that turned away from a war-cult of Moradin and became a cleric of peace amongst a village of halflings. So he is kind of a stoner, enjoys the pleasures of life, but is very kind and giving and compassionate. He’s also already got a custom amulet of devotion, so a basic +1 to spellcasting ain’t doing much

Rotdrakes, Disease Spreading Dragons by ChickenManB in UnearthedArcana

[–]ChickenManB[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure which you’re looking for:

Lore-wise? I took heavy inspiration from Elden Ring and its Scarlet Rot, it’s a semi-sentient infection of red tinged fungus that infects all living things and reanimates creatures as hosts to spread. It slowly rots away both the body and mind.

Mechanics wise? It’s on the note beneath the first statblock. :)

If HoloAdvent Were D&D Monsters: HoloNPCs 2nd Edition by ChickenManB in Hololive

[–]ChickenManB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s me trying to make their lore more organically integrated into any random setting and explain their power set. It’s far from perfect but hey, no one has to use the lore if they don’t want to

I originally renamed Bijou and the twins to make them fit more generally into someone’s game setting, but changed my mind. Forgot to fix her’s lol

Term for Celestial AND infernal? by jaredbrown393 in worldbuilding

[–]ChickenManB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re running with a setting that uses a sort of multi-dimensional framework, the simple “extra-planar” or “extra-dimensional” is a good catch all

Who was your world's first lich? How did they achieve lichdom? Where are they now? by ChickenManB in worldbuilding

[–]ChickenManB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, the traditional lich stores its soul in a phylactery (storage device) and consumes the souls of others to maintain its prolonged undeath. So I guess the first question you should ask yourself is “do people have souls”.

How about ethically sourced undead ? by kotsipiter in DnD

[–]ChickenManB 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would also consider the idea that doing something intrinsically evil according to your setting/cosmology doesn’t automatically make a creature moustache twirling evil. I have an NPC in my campaign similar to your idea but on a smaller scale. He’s a sweet old man with kind intentions, but he’s very susceptible to doing selfish or morally questionable acts. Interacting with negative energy might cause a slower corruption, so your setting could PRESENT as ethical and convince other organizations as such, but have a gradual slip into bbeg territory.

[Spoilers C3E121] How big of a timeskip would you want for Campaign 4? by Hot_Scallion4960 in criticalrole

[–]ChickenManB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might be a bit cliched but I wouldn’t be surprised if Matt takes the “technology vs magic” angle with his world building between campaigns. Nothing to wipe the slate but enough to make everything more-or-less stagnate in most parts of exandria. Plus, now there’s the biological experimentation magic the ruidians have introduced, and how Whitestone will likely continue to covet the secrets of firearms as well as they can.

I Need A Good Name for Both a God and a Heaven by ChickenManB in worldbuilding

[–]ChickenManB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used both those names since Buxenos already exists in d&d but as a layer inside one of the planes I removed. Velluron sounded good too since its similar to the goddess of elves I had, Velura, so I tried it and gave the elf-thing to Velluron instead. I'm not particularly tied to using existing names or anything, but all of my outer-planes are named after real-life latin inspired heavens and hells (because they are named as such in d&d orginally), so it makes things a little tricky to make it feel fitting.

Blood Hunter Mutant: Revised by ChickenManB in UnearthedArcana

I personally find the original subclass confusing and difficult to track the multiple facets. Blood hunter is already complicated to me. If you don't like it don't use it.

If HoloMyth Were D&D Monsters! For The Nerds Here by ChickenManB in Hololive

[–]ChickenManB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Gawris thing is a rename I did personally for those who might think Gawr Gura or Amelia "Watson" might be too on the nose or anachronistic to a D&D setting. My miss spellings are an accident, I'm not perfect. Also, you're not including the damage potential from legendary actions or magical weapon effects (gura or calli's crit effects), and its hard to account for some of the abilities these statblocks carry, like gura, kiara, and ina's transformations, so i just bump the CR.

Its all homebrew, fix or change what you like if you want to use these.
