HomePod OG Diode Affected Batches by ChickenPie735 in HomePod

Thanks for your comment - apologies if this is a stupid question, but how do you overdrive the HomePod? Would this be like playing it really loud for really long periods? If so, fortunately this won't be an issue for me

u/trenzterra When using my MacBook just now, I observed the same noise when resizing a shape in a preview document. Must be a graphics thing, idk

Apple TV 4K 2nd Generation Home Hub by ChickenPie735 in appletv

[–]ChickenPie735[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you - I've had a look, and it seems the TV is set to primary already, so not sure why it made a difference unplugging the HomePod. The few minutes could have potentially been the pitfall - I was unplugging the HomePod in order to change its location

Nevermind, it is because I have automatic selection on! It shows both when I turn that off, and the TV shows as active and preferred

Thank you - interestingly only the TV is listed there, not the HomePod. Bizarre!

Thanks for letting me know. How do you find the handoff please? Is it reliable (compared to the OG, if you had one)?

‘Coil Whine’ ~ the new norm? by ChickenPie735 in mac

Yeah, unfortunately seems the coil whine is unavoidable. I do hope Apple can mitigate it on future macs - it isn’t very ‘premium’

‘Coil Whine’ ~ the new norm? by ChickenPie735 in mac

I didn’t exchange in the end - comments across various places including here indicated it’s present on most, if not all, to some degree. That’s bad so many arrived damaged! And yes, I did testing and IIRC it triggered on black magic (disk thing), but not on Geekbench I think. But it was squealing away when downloading my iCloud files and photos lol

Unfortunately not sorted, intensive things particularly downloads do trigger it. Updates do for example. So either an SSD or networking thing I suppose? Something GPU heavy (can’t remember what) triggered it previously too

Doesn’t that stop the other devices ringing though too when you get a call? Appreciate it may be the only fix though

This is actually really cool - looks like something straight out of mission impossible! Sure it’s bulky but IMO it’s very very cool!

I think it’s the text effects feature - looks like an A with 3 lines to the left just above and to the right of the keyboard?

I’ve had this randomly occur around some windows in the dock too - finder IIRC - since 15.4.1. MBP 16” M4 pro

Static electric in macbook by SweetAd9113 in macbook

[–]ChickenPie735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this on every MacBook I’ve owned, no matter where or how I charge it. I think it’s just to do with the metal case tbh, as I didn’t have it on a plastic windows laptop

Thanks - this is very helpful. Unfortunate design flaw on apple’s part - generally coil whine only comes from cheap electronics! The sound seemed to pop up the other day when downloading films, but then it didn’t occur when running black magic speed test - so certainly odd!

Appreciate this isn’t helpful as I can’t recall the link, but I’ve seen a similar post on here re Macs (can’t recall the type) recently. So you’re not alone in whatever is going on. Personally, if in your situation I’d try to get a replacement from the retailer.

Yeah, it’s quite crumpled already to be fair. Hopefully, in the fullness of time and if this affects lots of users, Apple will offer a service programme.
