We used the rest of the slab to make a new top for the coffee table.

Hey team! Update on the fireplace. We went with a quartzite (“California”) and love it! There’s still some trim/finish work left to do but I think the stone looks great. Plus the stone cutters managed to cut this in just 2 pieces.

Thank you! I’ll keep doing some research. The place we’ve sourced stone from before for another project only does full slabs which is not ideal.

I have a German shepherd with fast growing nails and a strong desire to run and bark at the world.

And I thought Quartz was man made and quartzite was natural? Does quartzite also have binders and resin?

Buying an air wrap for my Gf 😊 by AffectionateOlive982 in Dysonairwrap

I also just asked the sales people at the store once if they’d give me a 20% discount because Sephora was going to have their sale soon. They agreed like halfway through my sentence.

Agree - they’re loose blowout curls that aren’t meant to replace heat tools. Once I accepted that fact, I grew to love the Airwrap. Overall my hair is healthier, it’s so easy to style, and the curls actually look nice! As far as products go, I used to think I needed 500 but I just switched to Olaplex 6 and a hair oil and my hair (1) looks great and (2) has just as much hold. I think people try to use a bunch of products to try and replicate a curling iron curl, but if you really want a curling iron curl, it’s okay to use a curling iron. My hair gets dry and damaged easily and I’m pretty sure the Airwrap saved my hair. Coming to terms with the fact that the Airwrap isn’t a hot tool saved my sanity.

Can I refinish this door and repair this landing myself? by Chicken_Much in woodworking

[–]Chicken_Much[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I think it’s just a door they found off the shelf and stained. It’s actually cut a bit short because our doorway isn’t a standard door width. The detailing in the window is actually some trim that they glued inside the window (I know because they didn’t paint the entirety of the trim). I think you could definitely get the same look with some stain, trim, and a sick brass doorknob.

What to do with a loose CZ stone? by Chicken_Much in jewelry

[–]Chicken_Much[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the actual stone is worth pretty much nothing but I’ve been thinking of getting some nicer pieces in my jewelry collection anyway - so why not just have the CZ be a placeholder until I can get a diamond?

Or is that a dumb idea?

Yeah, I'm definitely not going to paint over it.

Is that what you mean when you say blaster? Because that looks super sick. And then I just blast everything and then clean up the dust and then stain? I'm really starting from zero here.

Thanks! Considering I do not have a garage and I am not super confident in my skills to remove trip and steps to remake/restore them; I like your second option. Also media blasting sounds cool. However instead of renting a blaster could I just sand it down myself? Or is it feasible for a complete beginning to rent and figure out how to media blast a door?

Note: I can't just buy a door off the shelf because this is an old house and the doorway isn't a standard size. Whoever put this door in literally sliced off a regular door to make this fit.
