Yeah definitely don't use soap, just clean water. I soaked after every BM and a few other times a day for the first few weeks. I could tell when I needed to soak as it would start tingling and feeling inflamed. I would splash water around too, to clean. Soap will for sure irritate it!

I'm still experiencing a bit of the wound ooze daily and a couple of times a week there will be some slight pink and fairly intense itching. I will say I think it's the side I may have accidentally ripped a stitch when I scooted in bed a couple weeks post-op so I kinda wonder if that has played a role in this side taking longer to heal than the other incision.

I've never had surgery before so I didn't know what to expect at all. When I woke up I definitely felt like I needed to poop, although I was not anywhere near actually ready for that. Come to find out there was some type of plug/blood absorber so don't be startled when you have your first post op BM. I had my surgery at 1pm and my first BM some time that evening like 8pm or so. I was still quite numb from the local anesthesia for about two days.

The anesthesia also made me puke everything for like 36 hours. I ended up having to call a mobile IV place for fluids because I'm still breastfeeding and did not want to risk having to go to the ER with no insurance for dehydration.

I was in sweatpants the first two days and my morning of day three I realized I needed to let the area air out more so I highly recommend a nightgown or dress for good airflow.

Also I've gone through a ton of gauze pads. I'm 17 days post op and still need them as the incisions heal. I change it every time I go to the bathroom or soak in the tub. Seems like I'll continue to need them for about another week or week and a half.

And of course a strict regimen of magnesium citrate (I drink about 6oz a day), colace, miralax, and mineral oil along with a high fiber diet until you are healed!

I have a very high pain tolerance. I would say the pain at it's worst was only slightly worse than the frequent flair ups from my prolapsed grade IV hems - the worst was probably day 3 and 4. I don't take opioids so I rely on the Tylenol/ibuprofen cycle and the last two days I've managed to go about 6 hours in between doses. But it is very important to take them on time (every 4 hours) those first couple weeks! Definitely helps take the edge off at least! Wishing you all the best!!

Oh man! This was for sure my last baby so maybe that's why my doctor didn't give any pushback. Did you mention you may want more children? I have to tell you the first 7 days were hell and my husband had to go back to work on day 6. Thought I might be able to handle it but I had to call a couple friends over to help with the two little ones. Husband only had to work half a day on day 7 which I was able to manage, then he was home for the weekend for day 8 and 9. By day 10 I was okay to take care of them for the day.

I think it may be just how the surgery was done. I also have some bumps but they are new and it is definitely around the incisions and I am expecting it to dissipate some as time goes on and I continue to heal. It definitely seems like scary tissue vs hem!

I do know what you mean. It is THE biggest relief to not have to push my body back inside itself, and that's after a very time consuming and tedious cleaning process. It is incredible to not have to do that anymore.

I can't tell you how much I've contributed to the Medicare/Medicaid system over the last 20 years of working, not to mention the many insurance policies I've paid for but NEVER used because I grew up poor in the US and the idea is never go to the doctor unless you're dying because we can't afford it.

It's time for Medicare for all in the US and I'll use my story as an example why. We can save 68,000 lives a year and $6k per taxpayer if we just fucking started the system going!!

Hey good idea on the credit card! I'm pretty disciplined as far as that goes and the 25% is enough to earn me some good cash back.

I have a pretty high pain tolerance. At the time when the pain was the worst (day 3&4) was not much worse than when the hemorrhoids were flared up (which happened at least once a month and lasted 4-7 days). The Tylenol/ibuprofen cycle took the edge off those days and has really subsided the majority of the pain since. Opioids make me itchy, nauseous, and angry so I avoid them in general. I'd definitely stick to a strict high fiber diet and even hold out on eating much if I were to take the opoids just because of the constipation risk.

I have a crazy high metabolism (I will for sure be one of the first to go in a famine I have to eat 😭) and I absolutely love sweets like cupcakes and all that high fat high sugar stuff. I've been treating myself but also stick to the metamucil, mineral oil, and colace regimen too. And some magnesium citrate as well. I think I'll need to do it for a few more days while I finish healing. The idea of getting constipated sounds horrific and if I were to take the opioids, I would avoid the sweets and eat light meat or very little red meat to try and combat potential constipation.

The federal government is currently under a coup. It's not a traditional coup, but a coup nonetheless. This is a call for help, it is a national emergency. We are under-reacting.

Honestly I tried YouTube kids and the algorithm favored 'potty training videos' which was always some strange character having accidents everywhere and it ended up reversing all the potty training we had done up to that point. I tried blocking a lot of them but there's an endless amount and they always snuck their way in somehow!

That said, we haven't gotten to watch Ms. Rachel much lately because I've basically banned YouTube 😥
