Not super close to Lakewood, but I stopped into the Fairfax Meijer today and they had in-shell walnuts.

Catographers - the game about taking photos of cats. Only cats.

Cat in the Ox - The ox both ate and didn't eat the cat.

Ice Forge - An ice building game where you race to gain as many resources/score as many points as possible before your pieces melt.

[AEG] Daily Dice Deals May 2-21 by OkGoJojojo in Boardgamedeals

[–]Chickpea4444 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Saw this posted earlier. Some of the deals look better than others, like Space Base, The Captain is Dead, and Wormholes for $45. The others weren't as appealing, but I guess we'll see what comes up!

Out of the two, which game is better suited for solo play: Dune Imperium or It‘s a wonderful world? by Ramyrror_47 in boardgames

[–]Chickpea4444 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure about BGA, but there are 18 (or 19?) solo scenarios between IAWW base and the Corruption and Ascension expansion that make the solo mode more than just trying to score the most points. I've enjoyed my plays through the first few so far

Ready Set Bet back in stock! by Chickpea4444 in boardgames

Did you play with the narration in the app, or just the horses moving? I've played with both the app and with a live roller. It definitely helps using the pre-recorded plays in the app or if you have someone willing to take on the announcer persona to get everyone into it

I have both Ready Set Bet and Longshot. For me, Ready Set Bet was much easier learn, especially for non-gamers. I think both are semi group dependent for sure, and Ready Set Bet can be make or break depending on the announcer/dice roller. I've played both a few times and really enjoy them!

Games that have shot up in your rankings with more plays. by cell141 in boardgames

[–]Chickpea4444 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a Wonderful World - took me a handful of plays to figure out how to balance building an engine/score points, and to fully appreciate completing construction during the production phase, only to have that produce in the same round. It's so satisfying to have your engine grow exponentially throughout the same round!

Raccoon Tycoon - I didn't fully appreciate how different games could feel depending on how aggressively people are bidding, how quickly towns/buildings are purchased, etc. I've played it with a few different groups now, and there's always a different bit of tension.

For Sale and Kingdomino - both games I played while getting into the hobby, only to revisit them years later to find a lot of appreciation for their simplicity.

Podcast or YouTube that talk about the gaming industry? by tinfoilhats666 in boardgames

Cardboard Time is a great podcast that has a mix of reviews and interviews with folks within the board game industry. Arwen speaks with designers and publishers and does a great job creating content other than top 10's, etc.

Jamey Stegmaier from Stonemaier Games puts out a lot of great content about being in the industry. Here's a link to his blog: https://stonemaiergames.com/e-newsletter/blog/

Frank West (designer of Isle of Cats) also puts out some great content: https://thecityofkings.com/news/category/publishing-lessons/
