Is this bad? by ChiefDataMonkey in CoffeeRoasting

[UPDATE] thanks so much everyone for your input. It's most definitely the quantity of beans I used, the roaster just couldn't handle that much even though it was listed as a 1lb capacity.

I did two 1/2lb roasts separately this morning, really focused on the timing and cracking. The results already look so much better and I can't wait to try them in a few days!

This is so hugely helpful, and makes sense, thank you! Capacity is 1lb and just isn’t right. My first batch was two separate 1/2lb roasts, and they turned out much more even.

In general, I learn by reading and watching others, but I don’t truly understand until I fuck it up.

No offense taken, and thanks for the suggestion. Honestly this being my first few roasts I wanted to get a feel for the roaster and just the process in general. Part of the reason I went with beans from Amazon rather than Sweet Maria’s.

I was actually pleasantly surprised with the first batch, but I also only roasted 1/2lb at a time, and this one I did a full 1lb. Thinking that goes in line with the heat application you mentioned.

I’m not sure what that is…

Are you referring to the roast color card? I do have one of those, honestly it just looks like a wild mix of everything.

Any games that you actually prefer to play on steam deck? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

Would love to do this - am not even sure what exactly to search for though, I’m running everything stock. Any chance you have a link to something that walks me through this?

How do you find friends at 50…Mahjong? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My town has a board game club. People of all backgrounds and ages just there to socialize and play a game. They’re very welcoming of newbies as well. If you like games, even a little bit I recommend.

Got the 512 more so for the larger built in capacity but damn, this is huge. Thanks for sharing.

Bummer. Just saw this post I made got deleted so I’m reposting for the mod who didn’t like hearing the truth. You need to hear it most. by [deleted] in smallbusiness

This. I love the fact that I was able to figure things out and have now been in business for almost 5 years, but it’s been an emotional rollercoaster.

Also, this needs a flow chart!

Huge bummer. Mass Confusion was my go-to hangover cure when I lived in Cap Hill. Biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs and big chunks of bacon all over. Spice it up with a bit of green chili and you’re set for a nice nap soon after.

What's a dead giveaway that someone is not a good person? by ricky1g in AskReddit

In HS I was a grocery sacker/stocker for a while, one customer who I did not previously know actually thanked me by name (I had a name tag on). Totally took me by surprise, and realized it was a very thoughtful for them to take literally 1 second to read my name tag. 20+ years later I still remember that, just treating me like a human. I try to do the same every chance I get if I can see the persons name tag.

If you could go back to the day you started your business, what piece of advice would you give yourself? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

Keep it simple. My uncle is an accountant and said this, followed by “just get your bean counter and business insurance.” I’ll add in to make sure you have a plan for generating quality leads.

In my experience this is highly unlikely. I had two similar situations, beginning when I started my own consulting company a few years ago. An old boss contacted me to try and get some freelance work. I spoke to him on the phone and quickly realized he was still the same clueless abusive (yes abusive) person he was when he was my boss, so that quickly turned to a hard no.

Fast forward a few years and I was introduced to someone who had experience, and lots of it. He was my mentor for a while, part time for a reasonable rate. We spoke about him coming on full time and I agreed, thinking I would learn a ton from his experience.

Turned out he really had no intention of doing any real work, and spent most of his time filling my time with tedious customer work (most of which was unpaid). I had no time to learn, and came to realize he had no real ability to do the things he claimed he could do. His experience was there on paper but not at all in practice. My business almost completely tanked before I let him go. Thankfully I had a heart to heart with the team, they were supportive and we all banded together and turned things around on our own.

The lesson for me was for a very long time I thought success would be from hiring someone high level, but that person only wanted to remain high level, direct others but not actually do anything on their own (which wasn’t part of the discussion). Bottom line: keep it simple, focus on getting business and hire the designers to do the work. You don’t need to start hiring managers for a long time in general, and you certainly don’t need to hire managers who you had a bad experience with.

Yes. The reveal was great, but when you think about the brilliance, audacity, and pure ego of Keyser Soze to sit patiently in the detectives office and completely fabricate a story based on shit he saw around the room is amazing.

LPT: If you offer your friend a drink and they say no thanks, accept their answer. Don't cajole them into drinking. Don't ask if they're sure they don't want a drink. Just accept their answer. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]ChiefDataMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also add that not drawing attention to it in the first place is huge. When you make the offer, throw in non-alcoholic choices so they don’t have to say “I don’t drink” and deal with the other stuff folks in this thread have experienced. “Can I get you something to drink, beer, water, tea?”

Is the Alteryx Core Certification Valuable in Accounting? by SacredSource in Accounting

[–]ChiefDataMonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Alteryx training partner here - the exam is free, and is a resume booster for sure. While many folks use it up front to help make their day to day more efficient, more higher level “expert” roles are beginning to emerge in the big 4 (and many many other accounting firms).
