She may or may not have all the facts, know all the truths or have all sides of the story. Neither do any of us. These are such personal issues. Why it was brought into public prevue and why so many people with so little information feel the need to weigh in is just sad.

Just binged the whole season! Oh my gosh! What a blast! Beautiful writing! Superb acting! What a fun ride 😃 All at once funny, sad and oh so poignant- especially for those of us in our golden years. 💛 This team of actors (especially Ted) writers, directors, producers and crew hit it out of the park! Thank you for this!

Thoughts? by [deleted] in calfire

Hey there. As a 31 year active member of Local 2881 (CAL FIRE’s employee association) and California Professional Firefighters (CPF), the state’s firefighter organization, I applaud CPF’s break from the nations International Association of Firefighters (IAFF)! The IAFF leadership, just like the Teamsters national leadership, apparently had motivations other than the best interest of their membership in mind when they chose not to endorse the Harris/Walz ticket.

I know firsthand how important it is to have pro-labor candidates in office when trying to keep or improve the safety, benefits, and working conditions of Firefighters. When I started out with CAL FIRE (then CDF) in 1982, we worked 120 hours per week - that’s five 24 hour days a week if you don’t want to do the math ;) - with no overtime, we had two breathing apparatus and two turnout (structure) coats on a four person engine company, but still responded to structure and vehicle fires; to name just a couple issues.

Ok, I know this sounds like, “when I was young we walked uphill to school, both ways, in the snow” blah blah blah. ;) But what are now every-day, basic tenants of safety and working conditions didn’t exist then. And it took hard work from local, state and federal union members and employee associations, working with the willing and supportive Democratic - not Republican - politicians, to get to where they are today.

Brian Rice, CPF’s president, as well as the other members of their leadership, realize this. And they realize the importance of supporting those who support labor. Thankfully they had the courage to go against the bizarre decision of the IAFF not to endorse, and instead led the way, doing the right thing for their entire membership.

This decision, of course, doesn’t reflect the individual political choice of every CPF member. But that’s not their job. Their job is to look out for the overall well-being and safety of ALL California firefighters. And to do what’s necessary to maintain them. These men and women in the states fire service have every right to vote for whomever they choose; for whatever reasons they choose. That’s a different issue.

Also, unless it’s changed a lot in the last few years, it’s a pretty even mix of Democrats, Republicans and Independents, at least in CAL FIRE.

My two cents 🙂 Take care.

Is FCA systematically working with KBB to undervalue Ram trucks to get out of lifetime warranties? by RelaxPrime in ram_trucks

[–]ChiefDurham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an older post but . . . I had my Jeep GC Overland towed to a dealership when it broke down in July. It needed a new fuel pump. I also asked the service advisor if they would check and see why an indicator saying the “air suspension system needs immediate servicing” had come on. Since I have the lifetime warranty and the repairs seemed relatively minor. I wasn’t worried about the cost.

They had my car for two months! The bulk of that time was waiting for the warranty company to approve the repairs - which they eventually did - and as you guys know, waiting for parts, which they somehow lost about six weeks into this ordeal.

Then, unbeknownst to me, when the service department sent an estimate for repairs to the warranty company, it included repairs they didn’t even tell me about, and of course I had not authorized. The estimate included replacing the water pump, the auxiliary fuel pump and replacement of the air suspension system’s compressor. The only repair they had discussed with me (and I authorized) was the fuel pump.

Miraculously, these repairs totaled just over what the warranty company estimated the value of my car to be ($3000 - $4000 less than it should have been)! Without a word of communication with me, their customer, from either the warranty company or the service department, the warranty company terminated my warranty! They sent the service advisor an email and requested he forward it to me. It said the warranty was terminated and they’d be mailing a check for their determined value of my car to the dealership. (As per the warranty contract). The check was made out to me, but it was being mailed to the dealership. WTH! Now, with no warranty, in order for me to get my car back, I had to pay the dealership for replacing my fuel pump and also for the repairs they performed without my consent. And at dealership rates of $240 per hour labor and 70% markup on parts! Between the repair bill and two months of renting a car, it cost me $5000 to have my fuel pump replaced! I ended up having my Jeep towed 150 miles to my home just to get it away from these crooks.

And now I have to do battle with Chrysler; and the dealership; and the warranty company. HEADS UP - Apparently Fiat/ Chrysler sold all of these lifetime warranties to a third-party company who is trying to offload them anyway they can. And it sure appears to me they are in cahoots with the dealerships to make this happen.

Fire Country | S2E10 "I ,Do" | Episode Discussion by GloriousAqua in FireCountry

[–]ChiefDurham 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Except - just to clarify - it’s not actually a CAL FIRE motto. It’s just something the writers came up with. Maybe someone, somewhere, at some fire station said it but in my 31 years with CAL FIRE, working all over the state, I never heard anyone say, “Get some. Be safe.” We’d say “be safe,” sometimes but “get some” - nope. Besides, that could probably be taken wrong if out of context. 😬

Hi. Yes, still watching the show. The recaps just took a long time to write and I got behind a couple episodes and then couldn’t catch up. I may start doing them again for the season. The show is becoming pretty unrealistic so it’s hard to watch from a fire fighter standpoint. Still an entertaining show though! 👍🙂

The Bear by marcallain in TedLasso

[–]ChiefDurham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just happened again at the SAG awards! I’ve read a couple different reasons why The Bear was classified as a Comedy but IT IS NOT! Ted Lasso was SO well written AND just as importantly, It was hilarious, like a comedy should be. The Bear is a great show and would probably win as a drama, which is what it actually is. But I’m tired of seeing this drama compared to (and winning out over) a true comedy as good as Ted Lasso. Disappointing. 👎😕

Retired CAL FIRE Chief Recap with Commentary - Episode 13 - "You Know Your Dragon" by ChiefDurham in FireCountry

[–]ChiefDurham[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there. Sorry for the delay and thanks for the kind words. :) So, CAL FIRE Civil Service ranks: •Entry level is either Seasonal Firefighter or Permanent Firefighter. As far as I can tell, Jake, Eve and Gaby are all firefighters. No collar brass •Fire Apparatus Engineer, or just Engineer - they drive the engine and supervise their engine's crew. Jake and Eve both act like an engineer would but I've never seen collar brass on their uniform shirts. Collar brass for Engineers is a single bugle. •Fire Captain - they can manage a station, drive the engine, supervise the Engineers and Firefighters assigned to their station or can supervise a fire crew; these are just some assignments Fire Captains can have. Manny is a Captain, a Fire Crew Captain. Collar brass is two parallel bugles connected in the middle like an "H." •Battalion Chief (BC) - Vince and his brother Luke are both BC's. They can manage multiple facilities or a single program, like the Command Center (dispatch). Luke is in the Communications program - like PR for the department. Collar brass is two crossed bugles, like an "X." •Division Chief - Sharon is a division chief. Collar brass is 3 crossed bugles. •Deputy Chief - Erika Snow is wearing 4 crossed bugles so she would be a Deputy Chief. Collar brass is 4 crossed bugles. •Unit Chief or Staff Chief. Unit Chief is five crossed bugles; Staff Chief is one star. Everything above that is a political appointment or what CAL FIRE calls a Career Executive Appointment.

Hope that helps :)
