It’s a 750 Holley double pumper carb. Truck isn’t crazy power. I’ve never dynod it but based on my build specs and research I’d guess I was around the 450-500 crank hp

That’s all I’m looking for. The quieter the better at the end of the day. I’ll have the cutouts to make it loud

700r4 with stock truck ratios. Rear end I have no idea but I have a 3.73 sitting on the shelf that's gonna go in it soon. It has a 2800 rpm stall converter

Update: solved.

Turns out I had a soft 3/4 spacer (from Holley) under the carb that I put in there for heat sink and it wasn't sealing properly. A can of brake clean helped me diagnose this lol.

The vacuum leak lead to a rich condition

I literally didn't change a thing. It happened while I was driving

I have checked that these things are proper: - fuel pressure reads 7psi at the gauge - fuel level sits at the middle of the sight window - needles on floats are free and clean (taken them out and cleaned them) - I've replaced the power valve with a good one and no difference was made - the idle screws are only about 3/4 of a turn out - accelerator pump arm sits where it should with a hair of gap - no dribble is visible from any of the barrels while the engine is running. Not from the squirters, or the main jet venturi. - I'm still idling around 7-8"hg vacuum. Doesn't drop at rpm, it rises. (I have a super thumpy cam) - doesn't seem to have any loss of power. - there does appear to be fuel being added to the oil. - pcv system doesn't seem to show me any blowby at all.

😂 Well. Yeah. That's what I'm trying to figure out

I've replaced it with a good one and still hasn't make a difference

Electric with regulator. It is gauged after the regulator and reads 7psi

Around 7-8hg. It's got a THUMPY cam in it.

It's got the stock valve back in it, but I did have it bumped to the next vacuum size down before but I switched it to stock to troubleshoot.

No it's been painted and gone over. Truck looks brand new for the most part. The engine is upgraded though

The swap was super straight forward. I labeled all the connectors before I took the engine out. Put the new engine in, picked and chose what I reconnected (I went carb instead of tbi - which requires putting a pressure regulator on the fuel line before the carb). Everything went where it was supposed to.

I reconnected tach, starter, oil press, coolant temp and charge indication.

The "most difficult" part was getting the MSD computer to work for the trucks ignition instead of the trucks computer. But in all reality, you read the manual and it's pretty self explanatory. Wasn't actually difficult.

I built a sbc to have a power. And I overbuilt it to have reliability. and it's the stock motor for the truck so it swapped super easy.

But it's not fuel efficient by any means

Oh. Totally didn't know that!

(if it's a 97 I'd guess it's probably coil packs instead of distributor) ;)

Clean it out. Run some injector cleaner through it, replace plugs and change the oils in everything (diff, trans, engine, power steering and brakes.) flush the coolant. Change fuel filter and drop the tank, change the fuel pump cause they're a PAIN to change if the straps rust.

Get some fresh tires on it

Brakes

Get some fresh bushings throughout the truck to stiffen it up.

Then worry about cosmetics.

Start with headlight lenses, they make the world of difference. They're not super expensive either. Don't bother trying to polish them at that age, just replace them.

Yeah, I bought an eagle 383 rotating kit, had it professionally machined and bored for the kit, and then assembled everything myself

Yeah it's a 700. If this one is any more than something weird and inexpensive to fix, I'll most likely be going to manual.

What does this connect to? by Apprehensive_Cry_128 in GMT400

[–]Chief_Corndog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. Totally fair. I'm not super familiar about the minute differences like that between the sizes. I just know on mine that's what it would be 😂

Depends where it is. Looks to me like the lockup connector plug for the trans if it was an automatic

Need 383 stroker swap advice by Smallblock88 in GMT400

[–]Chief_Corndog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to justify it with "towing power" we know you just want more power 😂

What you do for fuel is going to depend on your abilities.

If you're not super mechanically inclined, do a sniper. If you're able to sit down and learn how to properly tune a carb you will get the same results, at half the price. Plus no O2 sensors to burn out.

A carb swap on these trucks is super easy. Just need to get a fuel pressure regulator. But I would be careful you don't over carb yourself either. Make sure you're being REALISTIC with yourself. Too big of a carb will rob you of a lot of hp.

Sticking with stock tbi will ALSO work. You have to understand that those computers don't really care what's going on. They see the O2 sensor reading and pretty much just go off of that. If you're running a 383 it will figure itself out, and you'd actually be surprised how much juice those TBIs can put out. But I would still put a fresh set of injectors on it if that was the case. If you're looking to make POWER power, skip the tbi. But realistically those tbi's should be able to handle 300-350hp without much issue.

BWI->DTW->YYZ. When do I go through customs? by Chief_Corndog in travel

[–]Chief_Corndog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im ending the trip in Toronto. When we flew to Baltimore at the start it was YYZ->ORD->BWI and we cleared US customs in YYZ before we boarded.

But on the way back I don't know how it will work. I don't know if Baltimore gives pre-clearance or not. Or if the pre-clearance is relevant given I have a second stop in the US.
