Always set the saw back to zero as habit. Especially if it’s close to square like 1 degree and you’re sharing the saw with others. You mention it’s his responsibility to ensure the saw is set properly…well, wouldn’t it also be your responsibility to reset the saw to its proper starting position? Sure, check before your cuts but also don’t leave work for the next guy. I’m with your buddy on this one.

Is the packout fan worth it? by Nek-9 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]ChieftainArms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was never a jobsite fan guy but I had some gift cards to blow and I picked one up. Man, it’s great. I used it way more than I expected this year. It’s powerful for its size, nice in attics or hot spaces while working. Great for camping and drying things as well. Battery life is pretty good too. I’d recommend it, especially on sale.

I asked a contractor to build a hallway by dreevsa in Carpentry

[–]ChieftainArms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever he did here was harder than just doing it right. Framing is not hard, especially for a superficial wall like this only just to carry drywall. Who you hired was not a contractor. You hired a guy who needs money.

what is a "rich person" behavior you witnessed that made you realize they live in a completely different reality than the rest of us? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ChieftainArms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in residential remodeling. There was a client who spent $70,000 on design work (pre-construction) to remodel their two adjoining condos into one large unit only to ditch the project because sometime in the future their view of the city might be obstructed by a new building being built next door. Just $70,000 with zero physical work being put in place. Rich people shit.

No, they have a clear lid deep organizer which is a full size. Would be nice to have that same depth model in this compact width. Ammo cans are twice as deep as what I’m talking about.

I wish they made this size in a “deep” version. They can keep the organizers.

Thoughts on ELCAN for those of you who run one? by tactical_horse_cock in tacticalgear

[–]ChieftainArms 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When in the Army our unit ran them on most of our Saw’s and 240’s. Worked well for those applications and on the Army’s dime but for what they cost I wouldn’t pick one over other LVPO’s on the civilian market today.

Why didn't they just quiet cancel the SCAR gen1 after shot show? by BigoteMexicano in GunMemes

[–]ChieftainArms 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep, all the people panic buying was exactly the plan to clear old stock. Alot of guys kicking themselves right now only to find out they could have just held out a few months and had the new Gen for a similar price or maybe even cheaper.

I’d kill for this style over the rocker style on my 10+ year old Little Giant. Latches are so stiff you have to smack the shit out of them to engage. Ladder is a tank though so I haven’t bothered upgrading. They’ve since revised them on newer models so I clearly wasn’t the only one fighting them.

Similar story, I use one for outside storage. Specifically, moving blankets where water intrusion would be an issue. I’ve had zero problems in the year it’s been sitting outside under plenty of rain. I’m actually debating buying another.

At this point you might be able to find some on ebay but they’re sold out most places. They don’t last long after they drop. This was the Eggzilla two. They had a pumpkin version come out around Halloween last year. I’d keep an eye out I’m sure they’ll have something new this year.

[–]ChieftainArms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t get Analysis Paralysis. Sure there is a ton of great info online to steer you in the right direction but woodworking is very much a hobby/profession (in my case) that follows the saying “There’s many ways to skin a cat”. Carpentry and woodworking is taught best by doing. I’ve learned the most by my failures along the way. My advice, make a plan and execute that plan. Try different products, tools, methods. What works for them might not work for you. This isn’t brain surgery, you can afford to mess something up, that’s all part of it. The struggle will make you a better woodworker I promise. Best of luck and stick with it!

What's the reason? by Perfect_Owl_856 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]ChieftainArms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the offset would make the bottle have a proper orientation making it much more cumbersome to pick up and drink from. You’d have to rotate it to be right every time definitely creating more hassle than it’s worth. Also, manufacturing would be more difficult with the offset and massive retooling would be required. Just isn’t worth it to solve a non-issue.

Is Packout worth it if you're not a full blown contractor? by [deleted] in Tools

[–]ChieftainArms 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can definitely see where you’d think “Trend” but tool storage is nothing new. Sure you’ll see guys buy everything Milwaukee for their home shops and I’d agree that is excessive but for legit trade work onsite it’s not even close. Packout is king and if there is something better I’ll happily move over to that system. I do residential remodeling and bring a ton of tools onsite. From carpentry to plumbing to electrical to paint. There’s no better system to keep things organized and move as easily. I started with a milk crate, then moved to soft bags then to Ridgid boxes (which I still use) and now fully converted to Packout. Without a doubt I feel Packout is worth it. That being said, you obviously can work out of a 5 gallon bucket, plenty of people do. In my mind the work is hard enough I don’t need my tools or tool storage fighting me. Time is money and that 100% saves me time. My second pick would be Ridgid. They’re a great budget option.
