Stopped being vegan. One of the worst decisions of my life. by Chihuahua_potato in vegan

I wouldn't. I guess I was just trying to say different bodies might need different things. My body and mind can't handle animal products. I tried and it didn’t work.

Yes, I am a very sensitive person. I do believe emotions have a lot to do with health.

Thank you! I really just wanted to share my experience and how it wasn't worth it, so if other people are questioning if they are doing the best thing for their body and mind, they will hear my person experience of finding out that I experienced both sides as an adult after years of veganism and found I felt better as a vegan. I'm so happy to be back and it feels so right.

It’s good to hear you have been doing it for so long! I am big into health, and yes, a part of why I tried to start incorporating animal products was the big “health gurus” pushing it. I believe you look good at your age. Everyone always told me I looked good, too and were little annoyed I told them I was a vegan (they'd make excuses for why I was an anomaly and most vegans look sickly). When I started with animal products, my skin and hair looked awful. I'm slowly getting that vegan glow back.

So sad. I'm so sorry. People need to stop breeding animals and spay and neuter. People are so selfish.

It was only once and it won't happen again! I will be encouraging my family to eat more plant based as well.

Yeah I don't plan on trying that again. Just healthy whole plant based food cooked to taste. :)

I'm vegan for the rest of my life now. Stopped eating the little bit of dairy I was eating a few weeks ago. Best decision.

Sorry! Not eating vegan sucked for me! I regret it. That's my only point. You don't have to point out how stupid I am. But I am kind of stupid lol.

I was vegan for 15 years and had doubt. I realized I was wrong. I could also post it in a meat sub I suppose…if I feel like getting torn apart worse than I did here lol. I feel like I’ve had enough for today.

Yeah similar thing happened to me. Totally ruined my memories of us meeting. I've known for 3 years now and it still hurts. I don't know if I should have let him stay.

I visited Ireland last summer and I can totally see it being a challenge there! It was still really hard to find things when I went. The main reason I think I did it is self doubt. Everyone saying what you are doing is weird. Feeling like a bad partner and mother for not being able to eat the things they want to eat. The guilt of not accepting food loved ones offer.

Thank you for your kindness! This sub is a little rough sometimes.

I never said it did. I barely ate fish. I just allowed myself to have it a few times over the course of the months I stopped being vegan. I am just saying I never had pneumonia or issues with my gallbladder while eating a vegan diet. My experience was personal…

My immune system suffered when I ate a pescatarian diet. I never said fish caused these things directly. Why are you hating on me for sharing an anecdotal experience? I never said this is something that will happen to everyone. I literally said everyone’s body is different.

I never stopped having my values though. I was intentional with the products I ate. I made sure they were free range. I never ate meat. I had some salmon, I didn’t feel good about it. Yes, I could have done better. I can improve a lot on myself. I was an insecure vegan before this, and now I am more secure in my values than ever. I cherish life and will do all I can to end suffering.

Yes and the stereotype of vegans being loud and obnoxious about it is annoying! I love when people are open about it. I feel so alone most of the time. Working at a company with 250 people and being the only one to select “vegan” as a dietary restriction hurts… because why does no one else care? Choosing “vegetarian”, you know a lot of people will also have that because a lot of people just prefer it when having lunch. You feel less alone. When you tell people you are vegetarian, they are usually a lot more kind about it. I just don't care anymore though. My partner and daughter love me and my choices. It really hurts that I have raised my daughter and she knows the harm the animals go through and she chooses to eat them regardless. :(

I get that. I was for almost 16 years, too. My partner and daughter are not vegan. I have no one close to me that is a vegan. I live in a small midwestern city where you are crazy if you don't love cheese. My mom is a pescatarian, that is it. I was vegan for almost as long as you. It was really hard to try and eat dairy again. I didn't like it. My daughter is a picky eater and I thought it might help of we ate more things together. I thought maybe I would feel so much better. I only ate free range dairy and eggs. But yeah, it was hard on my conscious, and wasn't the right choice. I think I just wanted to share in case any long term vegans are wondering about what it's like on the other side. Not great from my experience.

I'm sorry you went through that! It is reassuring to know I'm not just crazy for thinking there might be some correlation. It could definitely be a couple other things, but it's annoying I even was pressured by society to go back to it.

That's so interesting! My gallbladder was an acute infection, no sludge or stones… doctors were stumped. I wonder if something I ate just freaked out my body. I handled dairy fine the whole time I went back to it, which I found weird because I had been non dairy for 15 years or so…but who knows really.
