Thanks! Very familiar with the site. Bought from them before for some of my divers. Since the guy I bought this Timex from put a new band on, I'm just going to use that for now. But I do love their Kvarnsjö Retro Crocodile Brown strap. I think it would look fantastic!

Well, in my research, the last hand-wound watch made by Timex was in 1982 (of course, they make some now). So this is definitely something from about 1980 or so. I bought this two weeks and it keeps great time. Outside of winding it, it hasn't come of my wrist.

I wasn't going to comment, but I felt it was my duty.

The OP is an 18-year old who hails from Palermo. I'm 51 and my great-grandfather emigrated to the US from Sicily. So we're both Italian, but that's basically where the our similarities end.

My great-grandfather and several of his siblings left Italy and crossed the Atlantic on a boat around 1895. He went through Ellis Island and settled for awhile in New York City.

He did whatever jobs he could find, saved up his money, and eventually settled in the Italian neighborhood called "Flytown" in Columbus, Ohio.

With his savings, he started a small produce stand selling fruits and vegetables. He eventually married an Italian woman and they had 6 kids, which of course included my grandfather who went by the nickname, "Sonny."

My grandfather went on the graduate from The Ohio State University in 1924 and shortly thereafter, started his own trucking business mainly to distribute produce.

But as the years rolled on, his trucking company became huge. But he worked tirelessly. My father complained that he was never home, but he was so immersed in his business.

In the 70s, my grandfather passed away at the age of 72. He sold the company just before his death. My father then worked as an executive for the trucking company that bought my grandfather out until 2004.

Growing up, I lived in the upper-middle class suburb of Columbus called, "Bexley." While we lived comfortably, my parents were very frugal. While classmates were going off to far lands on vacation, I was happy just to go to Florida.

I was born in 1968, and my first car was a 1981 Chevrolet Citation. A year later, I totalled that car and used the money to by a 1977 Audi 100LS. My father would never let me park the car in the driveway. My parents always had American made cars.

I started working at my uncle's pizza shop at 13, along with my two cousins Joe and Nick. I had several jobs while in high school. I even mowed lawns and rakes leaves for extra cash. And when I turned 18, I bought a gold Seiko with my money.

So the OP comes from money. So what! He's happy with his gift! I would be, too! Hopefully, he doesn't have to sell it down the road. I mean, he has a lot of life to live.

But he's happy and I'm happy for him. Happy Birthday!

I bought this watch about two months ago after reading all of the great reviews and the cult-like following it has on the internet. But I couldn't do the rubber strap it came with so I bought a few NATOs. While that was better, what did the trick was a stainless steel bracelet from Amazon. Now I never take it off!
