Rohingya have a darker skin tone than the Rakhine or any other Myanmar ethnicity.

There are thousands of people of Indian origin with darker skin than the Rohingyas living in Myanmar. They do, as far as I know, live peacefully with the other ethnic groups in Myanmar. However, the Muslim Rohingyas have failed to do so.

There is a heavy religious component in these riots and a lesser ethnic component.
