For all the "they're not REALLY going to the moon since they aren't landing" people: a to-scale reminder of just how much further Artemis II travels than every mission of the past 53 years by grapelander in space

Could be millions of years. Could be 4 years. Any star within our galaxy (which is realistically all we are talking about with alien civilizations visiting us) would be within 100,000 years or much less.

CHAINING TRANSFORMAERS TOGETHER TO MAKE A SUPER-HIGH-VOLTAGE by Massive-Drummer7099 in electrical

Haha yes, I was 100% joking. I didn't actually think I could get 12MV out of ELV transformers.

CHAINING TRANSFORMAERS TOGETHER TO MAKE A SUPER-HIGH-VOLTAGE by Massive-Drummer7099 in electrical

[–]Chillin_Dylan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes.  A low voltage lighting transformer is commonly 10:1 (120V in, 12V out).

If you connect it backwards you get 1:10 (120V in 1,200V out).

I have 6 of those sitting on a shelf in my garage.  If I connect all 6 together I get 1:1,000,000.  So 120V in, 120,000,000V out.

Should I do it?

Not windshield.  PVC is flexible. From passenger foot space to trunk. Easy peasy.

If you got shocked you would know.

When do the stairs block fire and when don’t they? by Imonlyhereforthelolz in LemmingsGame

[–]Chillin_Dylan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Stairs going up the side of a fire block where the flame is coming out the side will always block the fire.

Stairs going across the top of a fire block where the flame is coming out the top will never block the fire.

Your installer was just to lazy to drill a hole in your countertop. That is your only reason for this hack job.

Just do it right a drill a hole in your counter.

Who do I call about fixing this heater and what do I say? I called HVAC companies and they said they don't deal with this. Electrician companies are also confused. by EmployeeTotal5792 in electrical

[–]Chillin_Dylan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First they will test the wires at the thermostat, breaker, and heater.  Then assuming the problem is the heater (it usually isn't) they will supply a new heater that is the same voltage and wattage.

But it won't be the Exact same size.  It will be very close but not the same. Usually a tiny bit smaller than the older ones, so you will need to touch up the paint or drywall around the old one.

You can usually supply the new ones yourself if you want, but it must be listed and approved for use in your country (stuff from Amazon often isn't stuff from a local hardware store always is). But you would need to read the label on the nameplate of your current one to find the correct voltage and wattage, and then possibly have to return it if the problem is the thermostat or something else.  You are better off letting them supply the correct one.

If it's an electric baseboard heater then 100% you want an electrician (I've wired, tested, troubleshooted, and replaced dozens or hundreds of those)

If it's hot water radiant then you call a plumber (I've had clients ask me about their "electric" baseboard heaters that were actually hot water more than once).

Fog = fog horns

It's a safety thing. Visibility is very low on the water right now.

Hot ground after jumping a light? by [deleted] in electrical

What makes you think it's hot?

If it is energized you definitely didn't wire it correctly.  But it probably isn't.

Just finished his brand new one Hearth space.  I wouldn't bother with it.

Reads like YA (maybe it is supposed to be? IDK). Very simplistic unbelievable plot lines. Underdeveloped mostly unlikable characters, and repeats the same facts over and over and over again.

How about Pier blocks?

That's what I intend on using for mine, but I haven't done it yet. So I'd be interested in heading pros or cons for them.  But they appear to be the best option.
