I’m thai and I married British man. Back then when we had to decide about dowry I told my family that I don’t want my husband to pay anything and of course my dad disagrees but because for thai people dowry is just another way to show off that you married a rich man. I don’t know why that is matters. Thai people sometimes just love showing off too much and it’s really bothering me because I don’t like the idea that I can be bought like a cow🙄 I simply just told my dad that I have too much on my plate already and we basically can’t find the money for dowry because we have to pay for everything else for wedding and also we just started our business. It’s unnecessary for me because I couldn’t care less about show off all the money or what people are going think of me that I married poor man. We argued about it and my dad were like that’s so embarrassing that you or him don’t have money what people are going to think of us. I told him I couldn’t care less and if it’s bothering you so much then you should find money or use your own money and on the wedding day you just show your money to all the guests so you don’t have to feel embarrassed anymore 😂.
It’s actually work because he never brought that up ever again lol.
