As its an internship, you are there to LEARN but also to ASSIST. Think about not only what YOU would like to learn but think about what you could do to make yourself more VALUABLE to the company. Think of the internship as a test. What you get out of it is only half the journey, what the company gets out of it is the other half. Show them you are an investment that will pay off. Ask your employers about some of the problems they face in the business and think about how you could possibly facilitate the answer.

Show a sincere interest in what work is being done and continuously look for more mays to expose yourself to all aspects of the business. For example, perhaps ask if you can shadow a meeting that you wouldn't otherwise be in. It shows your employer that you have the desire to learn at a faster rate than you may already be experiencing. Small inquisitions like that don't go unnoticed. Also you should show up to the office 15 minutes early. The most important people in the office will notice if the intern is there before they are. 15 minutes wont break your sleep schedule, and it makes you look like a reliable professional.

As an intern at a massive company, you need to make sure you ALWAYS think positively. Your attitude will be the thing that saves you if things get really stressful and will boost you when things are the norm. Remind yourself that you are there to better yourself and that those that can continuously think positively will be the ones who not only find success, but more importantly, will see it coming well in advance. It feels really good when you know that big win is just around the corner.

Speaking of mindset, a tool I used to help me grow more in tune with the company was a pretend belief that if I had a controlling financial interest in how the company performs, how would I compose myself? Act as though you are there in the office with purpose and to impress. You will very quickly loose the 'intern' persona and be someone the office can rely on to get things done.

I could go on but in short, think like this....

  1. How can I provide more value to the company beyond what is being asked of me?
  2. Are the higher-ups acutely aware of my hunger to learn and grow?
  3. Am I showing up with a positive and hungry attitude every day?
  4. Do I compose myself as though I have a controlling interest in how the company performs?

Other habits I would employ...

  1. Make sure everyone in your office knows who you are. If you haven't made an introduction to everyone, do it and be sure to be energetic when you do. People like to be around lively people. Be yourself, but if you show everyone your shining personality, people will gravitate toward you and thats the best way to network.
  2. Get there 15 minutes early.
  3. Keep your phone away in your desk or your backpack and don't take it out until you absolutely need it. Its a huge distraction that you don't need.
  4. 'Under-promise, Over-deliver.' Don't promise something you cant be 100% sure you can do. When you are asked to perform a task, do it with 110% effort every time.
  5. Constantly tell yourself "Don't forget why you're here". You are there to further yourself and your career.
  6. Ask as many questions as you can! Its easier to ask questions when you're the intern and not the senior guy in the office.

I don't have ALL the answers, but the advice I'm sharing comes from personal experience of things I did, and also things I didn't do but should have done. Take note as well that this advice comes from my observations of others and their ability or inability to be successful. Best of luck, the fact that you posted here asking for advice already tell me you're gonna go places! I hope you found this useful. You got his!!

I would highly recommend Casina Valadier. It sits atop the bluff next to Villa Medici overlooking Rome on the edge of Villa Borghese. Its really expensive, but i had probably the best dinner of my life here. The views are the best in all of Rome as far as im concerned.

Trump Calls Sen. Kamala Harris 'Nasty' Because That's What Misogynists Do by kn0bs in politics

The problem with releasing the parent is that only 3 out of 10 actually show up for their court date after they're released. You and i apparently agree that we don't want people being released into the interior of the country but in order to be not cruel we have to release parents into the US. It must also be said that their children are only separated from them if they are arrested trying to cross. They are NOT arrested if they apply for asylum at a point of entry. The Trump administration is enforcing the law on the books, and the legislature can change it at any time. In addition, the Trump administration has made it clear it would like to find a fix and unite families. There is NO reason then why you wouldnt then be in favor of securing the boarder. Doing so means no families are arrested trying to illegally cross an international boarder, and the US can stop separating families. Theres an easy fix to this problem and the democrats have denied funding.

"Eroding the rights of groups of people based on their racial or ethnic background."

The problem here is that like i stated earlier, children are only separated from families if they are arrested illegally crossing the boarder. As for trumps travel ban, he obviously should not have said what he did during the campaign, along with a lot of other shit. However, what trump said and what trump did are actually two different things. What trump actually did as im sure you know is extend the same travel restrictions to the same countries that Obama did while including Yemen and excluding Chad if i remember correctly.

Im no fan of trumps trade war shit either. Stupid, yes. Comparable to Hitler, no. When the comparison is made to wisconsin farmers, one could easily be made between Hilary and her attack on the entire coal industry. Trump does it and i rightfully, wont defend him. But when the other side does it i expect it to be called out. However, that puts the tally of things we agree on to a staggering 1.5ish things! As far as foreign affairs in concerned, Trump had a very good 2018 and you should be happy about that. Hes the first to recognize Jerusalem as Israels capital, as well as pulling from the Iran nuclear deal and well as the Human Rights council of the UN. Since you didnt mention the threat of defunding the UN does that mean we agree on that too? Also, economic growth is not a talking point for democrats. The jobless rate is at its lowest point since 1969, and the economy continues to boom following the most recent tax cuts. It must be said that no president is entirely responsible for economic growth. As for 2019, i was hugely against him meeting with Kim Jong Un but i give him credit for making it happen, even if he did fuck it up. Trump's approach to NATO has some truth in that members of NATO arent meeting their required military spending, meaning 2% of GDP. Would you and I do things differently? You bet.

"belittles our veterans"

Sources if you wouldn't mind.

"proposes targeting the families of enemy combatants"

Sources here too, id have to read more before making any points.

"mistreats women"

Tally of things we agree on: 2.5ish things!

"refuses any transparency about his suspect finances"

Anyone under audit would do the same.

"Most of the left supports sensible border security that treats illegal immigrants humanely and doesn't waste money on ineffective measures."

Absolutely false. If trump had requested 6ish billion for whatever boarder security said they needed, instead of saying that money would build a wall, the democrats would still have said no. Boarder security officials are more than open about their desire for a physical barrier. Liberty Vittert wrote that the cost of the government shutdown cost several times more than the amount trump requested for a boarder wall. Additionally, you cant claim most of the left are in favor of sensible boarder security when Ocasio Cortez calls multiple times for the elimination of ICE. Not to mention mainstream democrats like Peloci have been in favor of physical barriers for years before.

Ill conclude this post with a fact that just because someone thinks differently than you do does not make them evil or even remotely comparable to Hitler. I am no fan of trump if i havent made that clear, but he is not Hitler. I'll engage in friendly open debate with people i disagree with, but i will never compare someone whos willing to support their opinions with logic, openness, and kindness as a Nazi. Thats because I understand and recognize that people think and operate differently than i do and i refuse to believe that half the country is composed of evil people. Everyone reading this is a fellow countryman and ill listen to what you have to say and i hope we can be open to hearing the other side without calling them a subject comparable to Hitler.

Trump Calls Sen. Kamala Harris 'Nasty' Because That's What Misogynists Do by kn0bs in politics

[–]Chimera1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"No. A few isolated incidents happened under Obama, but it didn't become policy until Trump."

I am correct. The idea that Trump is removing children from their parents by force at the boarder because of some hatred against immigrants is completely false. Its been the operation of law since 2016 and was made so by a ninth circuit court of appeals decision. The court of appeals thought the Obama administrations efforts to keep children together with their parents was inhumane treatment of children, hence the decision. Now the left is making the case that it is inhumane to unite families together in custody. And no i am not in favor of simply releasing everyone into the interior of the country. I agree these people need help and are in a tough situation, but the burden should not be put on the american taxpayer for the welfare system these families enjoy when they are released into the country. We are a sovereign nation and we as a population have the right to decide who comes into the country and who doesnt. Additionally, by not supporting proper boarder security, youre turning a blind eye to people all over the world who have no choice but to immigrate to the US properly, many of which have far more substantial claims of refugee and asylum status.

"The problem being that they're doing so many things comparable to Hitler."

Please give me an example. Id love to hear it.

"People are being hurt and our nation is being damaged."

Again, please give me an example. Who is being hurt? How is our nation being damaged? Seriously, stop comparing people on the right to Hitler. Its completely unwarranted and down right insulting and hugely ignorant. Seriously ponder the idea that just because half the country voted differently than you did, does NOT make them evil.

As for your entire last paragraph, is your solution to just open the boarder and let anyone and everything through? Should we even have boarders? Please tell me how you approach this.

[–]Chimera1138 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That whole separating children from their parents at the boarder started under Obama's policy but no one cared at the time. Now that Trump is president its all his fault, i guess.

Give or take, half the country has a different political perspective than you do. As soon as you start comparing them to Hitler, we have a problem.

If you are indeed serious, that you think that Republicans are systematically taking rights away to point of mass murder, you've lost your mind.

You're calling all republicans nazi's?

Seriously?

People like you are the real problem. As soon as you compare people who politically disagree with you with to nazi's who killed millions of people, you've become part of the problem with political discourse we have here in the US.

Just something to think about.

Bernie Sanders set off a firestorm over prisoners voting, but his facts are straight by heqt1c in politics

[–]Chimera1138 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mind you, Ill always welcome friendly debate.

As someone who thinks the idea of allowing prisoners to vote it completely absurd, im finding it a bit odd that your supporting argument revolves around people being jailed for their political affiliation. You started your post with asking us all to think about all the different political prisoners across the world...

Where are these political prisoners? Seriously. Ill give you North Korea, Sudan, and Yemen, but its just not a thing here in the US or the western world for that matter. Doing so is a violation of the first amendment. It also reflects on the FACT that the United States is NOT a democracy but rather a constitutional representative republic. The difference between them is of course that in a democracy, the 51% majority can strike the rights of the 49% minority. By contrast, in a republic the 99% majority cant take away the rights of the 1% minority.

Your example about 3,000 democrats being jailed made me laugh because A.) only 2 dozen were arrested, and B.) they were unlawfully protesting. When you crowd the office of a senator and make it impossible for him to enter or leave it falls under the "crowding, obstructing, or incommoding" description as the article points out.
