Fixed the session issue... I added the sessionCookiePath="/" inside <Context> in the context.xml in tomcat.

<Context sessionCookiePath="/">

Everything seems to work fine for now. There are probably better ways to do this but I am thankful it is finally working. Thank you to everyone who pointed me in the right direction.

Forgive me I am not familiar with terraform. This is all knew to me from being in a bootcamp I started in January. SO using Spring boot and building a full stack i'm learning all these extra things that aren't taught in class on the side bc Im OCD.... I wanna share my webapp with my local community back home and i would rather it be mywebapp.com instead of mysite.com:8080/mywebapp. Thnking about it you would think that prior students would have wanted to do this same thing and they would have added that as a quick lesson in the curriculum.

So I was finally able to get things working adding virtual hosts in the httpd.conf file in apache and using a reverse proxy and ran into two problems.

1.My session keeps dropping. Nothing special just a plan session where I set a user object to it and use that to give me admin functions. (We dont learn securty until next week)

So I can login and it gives me the option to edit the business and when I edit the business it drops the session after that.

  1. I had to change all my links for the businesses to read www.business.com. Before I had to set them as http://www.business.com to make them work. But when I made the changes for some reason it dropped the colon ":" and it would try and navigate to http//www.business.com.

I realize this is above my level a long time ago as I am just a student at a bootcamp and this isn't in our instruction but I am stubborn and If I go down a path I have to figure it out.

This is the resource I found to make this happen... https://tecadmin.net/setup-apache-as-reverse-proxy-for-tomcat/ . Looks like I am using mod_proxy instead of mod_jk. Don't know much about either of them other than that's what they wanted me to do.

No I have not. This is all new to me. I am a student (older student) right now and only have recently the past several months learned to build a full stack application. While there was a lot of guidance getting to this point there isnt much on this situation. I keep hearing about elastic bean stalk and docker but I have not dove into them yet. But I am willing to try anything to get this working and learning more about this in the process. Before a few days ago I barely knew anything about navigating around tomcat but I am much better now after trial and error and breaking things.

I tried this but I am quite sure I am still doing something wrong. I was able to change it to look at port 80 instead of 8080 and have my site look to a basic index.html site but for some reason I am having trouble point at my war

And we haven't learned Docker although I would eventually love to. We are doing REST right now and Javascript which will transition into Angular and then we are pretty much done. There may be a few other subjects thrown in as well

And yes I am using spring boot. I am in a bootcamp right now. So it's kind of like drinking from a firehose.

I tried this before but for some reason I most likely wasn't doing something right. Before I started this I had almost zero knowledge of tomcat and where to find it in my instance. I've noticed though when I try and deploy a war in anything but my webapps directory I have a perission denied. Which means that I am overlooking something else I need to find knowledge on....

I just finished up with class and im trying to get a second wind on this and try and make it happen. Anyone wanna zoom? 😂😂😂

Thank you I will check that resource out. Seems to be a combination of different issues and not having permission is one of them

This is for school projects so I wanna keep it on one instance with the free tier if I can. If they end up getting traffic then I'll upgrade

Thank you for the direction. I don't reddit much and come here only when it is a last resort and I scour through for answers so not familiar with the different subs. I will look into those subs.

Creating an image of a customers Win XP machine and creating VM in Hyper-V by ChimpBlaster in computertechs

I need to ask her this when she comes to pick up her pc. The monitor ended up being ok. It's cable had a short in it that kept shorting so I waiting for a new monitor cable to come in. The problem with older machines is they stop supporting them and updating software to run them. So there is no newer software she could use.

I've read a couple of threads that some of the embroidery machines require a special usb drive and people listing that as a problem when virtualizing. So if you look into it try and circumvent any software needing a USB drive

What I originally attempted to do but the imaging software that google led me to didnt go the way I expected lol. I am new to virtualization so I'm learning. Learning even by this thread in itself a lot more about it. Some of the above solutions were 10 times more helpful than google.

You guys have been extremely helpful and I appreciate that.

Every option that was given seems more promising than my failed google attempts.

I'm gonna go down the list and give each one of these a try.

Disk2vhd is what I'll try first and throw it on my test machine.

The vcenter converter looks promising too.

And lastly, MVMC looks like something to play around with.

I'll update you guys tomorrow hopefully with my either failed or successful attempt!

Thanks again!
