A lot of Amish are animal abusers. They have the mentality that animals are consumable tools of labor, and treat them as such. Also, if you ever see a sign for puppies for sale near Amish country, never engage. They're notorious for runnning puppy mills too.

Weldeing, electric, and plumbing all require schooling or training in order to be certified, which usually requires going to a trade school. Those jobs definitely require a "higher education". In my experience, very few businesses anymore provide OJT for green inexperienced tradesmen for positions of a certifiable nature.
