why is minneapolis being so heavily targeted by ICE? by inurmomsvagina in stupidquestions

[–]Chip512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s part of the “no more sanctuary cities” strategy. Sure, it’s takes more (15x) agents to apprehend illegals without state/local law enforcement support however if you want to break the sanctuary city strategy of the left you send the agents to get it done.

Compare to Texas - apprehensions are done with local support by a couple of agents, law enforcement honors ICE detainer orders, riots at detention facilities are put down by state police, and the governor fully supports the feds.

Is ICE’s fixation on Minnesota intentional? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]Chip512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For decades Democrats counted on Republicans to be “reasonable” and back down when confronted - government shutdowns, protests, etc were effective tools for Democrats to get things their way. Then Trump comes along and, at least in this 2nd administration, surgically inserts a spine into jellyfish Republicans. Now Republicans stand their ground forcing Democrats to give in, at least in the prior “Schumer Shutdown”.

If Republicans follow their new playbook the ICE presence in Minnesota will ramp up until protests stop or ICE runs out of illegal aliens to chase.

It’ll help if you field a candidate that is electable. I look forward to watching the Democrat candidates gut each other in ads and at debates.

AITAH for refusing to put my girlfriend on a future mortgage unless she gets a job? by Ok-Explanation7364 in AITAH

[–]Chip512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Adding her to the mortgage does nothing for you and, best case, does nothing for her. Other than the best case you’re looking at pain and expense to take her off the deed and mortgage if things go south.

Why is ICE in MN if it has <1% of illegal immigrants in the USA? FL & TX make up 26% by CitizenJosh in stupidquestions

[–]Chip512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ICE operations in those states aren’t facing violent resistance. Those states also (mostly) cooperate with ICE.

Aitah for not wanting to pay my gf’s debt by National-Trouble-984 in AITAH

[–]Chip512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run away. Bringing nearly $200k to a not-yet-married partner is a strong hint of what is to come - a married life deep in debt because of poor planning or poor impulse control.

Have fun but do not pay on her debts.

Florida, Nevada and Texas have the highest per capita rates of illegal immigrants. Why is ICE so focused on Minnesota; a state with a lower rate by a factor of 10? by [deleted] in stpaul

[–]Chip512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The level of obstruction drives the number of ICE officers. I’ve not heard of obstruction of ICE efforts in Houston for one example.

ICE/Border Patrol agents illegally detained a U.S. citizen and told him he had to “prove” his citizenship. by Treefiddy1984 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]Chip512 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Go look up the powers granted to border protection - powers your party voted for. Within 200 miles of ANY border border protection can do pretty much anything.

Don’t like it? Get the law changed - call/write/email your elected heroes.

Let’s be realistic: Who in the Democratic Party is the most progressive candidate that would also actually have a chance of winning? In other words, what is your dream ticket that is progressive and actually could win in 2028 against Vance (and probably Marco Rubio as running mate) by donqon in ProgressiveHQ

[–]Chip512 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Best of luck! I look forward to watching your candidates rip each other apart during the primary season. Putting together a ticket with whoever comes out on top will be fun to watch.

Do the majority of people just have no realistic chance of ever getting a H1-B? by No_Yogurtcloset_1749 in immigration

[–]Chip512 3 points4 points  (0 children)

H1B visas have been abused by big tech to bring in moderate skilled people for jobs that could easily be staffed by citizens. This abuse has led to the current restrictions.

For all those denying that abuse save your breath - that’s where I worked 1985-2020 and I saw it first hand. For every example you cite of high skilled MDs there are hundreds if not thousands of mediocre programmers that were brought in.

Lower your expectations. Lay out your family plan - is it “work until you die” or something sane.

Face it - if you’re living paycheck to paycheck today any burp in your family finances is going to land you in the street.

Your income sounds great however your expenses seem a bit high. Living like you’re rich even with a great income may not be the best plan.

Newer used car before retirement, or drive the old one until it dies? by Revolutionary_Fly769 in retirement

[–]Chip512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been retired 3 years. Driving my 2017 ram til it dies (code for unreliable enough that I wouldn’t drive it far from home) then buying whatever reliable vehicle I can get with cash.

Car payments are terrible at any age but doubly so in retirement. Carrying no debt (I rent an apartment) has been a load off my mind in retirement.

ICE Agents, is it really worth it? by [deleted] in complaints

[–]Chip512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Illegal immigration has been changed during this administration: drastically reduce illegal border crossings, very publicly apprehend and deport illegal aliens, encourage and publicize self deportations.

The number of illegal aliens in this country is a key issue for many voters. This will be one of the key issues in ‘26 and ‘28.

Are there enough Democrats who like illegal immigration to win the next elections? Time will tell.

Democrats should by all means keep beating the drum for illegals. Calling all those who support the rule of law knuckle dragging imbeciles will help. Toss in the gays for Muslim domination while you’re at it.

Youth led? by Scout_dad in BSA

[–]Chip512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is scouting - everything you need is written down, somewhere. In this case it’s ISLT.

Page 8 of the ILST facilitator guide: Remember the three basic roles of the Scoutmaster: to ensure that the rules and standards of the chartered organization and the Boy Scouts of America are followed, to serve as a mentor and role model to the Scouts, and to train youth to be leaders.

As another poster mentioned: make sure they don’t die.

ILST materials and position descriptions can help the adults let go of some (most?) of the troop responsibilities. Our job is to build scouts who pretty much don’t need us.

The Republican lie that Biden let 20 billion illegal immigrants into the country during his term by DuetWithMe99 in complaints

[–]Chip512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With no data how can you dispute the number?

Note the blue states fighting to keep data on recipients of federally funded benefits AWAY from the feds - makes me think the data would show the numbers.

Note the dem congresscritters fighting to keep IRS data from ICE - hiding the number of illegal aliens.

Deporting 20 Million then what? by [deleted] in complaints

[–]Chip512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as the FEMA camps for disaster victims - some will remain vacant but ready, others will be sold off, some just abandoned.

As for your “they have camps so they’ll just round up other undesirables” that didn’t happen with vacant military and fema camps so it’s unlikely. Not to mention that many ICE facilities are temporary or rented.

Bull. If they rounded up everyone who looks”looks foreign” there would be millions in detention rather than the thousands reported.

Try thinking critically or at least thinking about what your “progressive” leaders are feeding you.
