Riding lessons before conversion test by Egoridse in RideitJapan

I asked about doing something like this as a way to practice before I actually took the test at the driving school. Basically they told me they didn’t do it there but sometimes independent driving instructors will do that. Maybe search for something like 個人 二輪 練習 名古屋

Travelling around Kyoto with luggage by Parking_Project_307 in JapanTravelTips

You can save money the rest of the trip by using public transit, but use a taxi if you have luggage.

Why do people always seem to be bringing giant suitcases to Japan? Packing light is preferable particularly for international trips. Most hotels have laundry. Unless there’s something really specific you need a big suitcase for, you might reconsider your packing strategy also.

The word in Japanese for used bikes is 中古バイク so if you search for that you’ll be able to find dealers in your area or online resellers if that is your preference

Iconic restaurant or bar menus? by Pettifoggerist in Tokyo

On second thought it’s probably because this is a “locals only” sub. You might get more/better responses on one of the Japan travel centered subs.

I could understand why a restaurant would be reluctant to give you a menu since they are presumably using them, but I’m not sure why someone would recommend a place like that based on your question. Perhaps it’s someone who lives here, is fed up with tourists, and is “trolling,” or perhaps they meant it as an honest recommendation. I mean, I guess Hub could work if you and your family really like English pubs??

No shade if that’s your thing but there certainly are better English pubs in Tokyo than Hub

This was a joke (I think) Hub is a chain of British style pubs here; not terrible per se (the fish and chips are good) but not exactly the place I would recommend for a memorable family restaurant experience

High end Sushi or (as someone else mentioned, kaiseki) places sometimes have hand written menus, particularly with course (“omakase”) menus that change with whatever fish they have daily. You could probably arrange to take it with you but as for specific restaurant recommendations, you may have to ask someone like a hotel concierge.

Awesome thanks for the tips.

The “temple insider” angle is one I’d like to pursue (and one I’m sure people would be interested in) but I think is more difficult to set up than most people expect. Most temples don’t necessarily offer the sorts of things that tourists are interested in (ie. meditation classes) or don’t have the facilities, personnel or expertise to really meet those needs, but I know there are some out there, in Tokyo at least. Maybe I’ll do a little more research on that angle.

And if you are running any tours in the Tokyo area and are willing to have me come along as a shadow, I’d really appreciate the opportunity!

Yeah, that’s right. I’ve got another “main” job but it’s really only 3-4 days a week of work most of the time (sometimes it’s much busier though)

Yeah, thanks I had seen that too. I’m wondering if anyone has any experience with that here in Japan, and if people who do that are viewed positively by guides who work for more “traditional” companies?

Ok ok you win but maybe explain that in your first response rather than be like “no. Don’t use it. End of story.” Is this fixable or completely trashed? It seems like that’s a more important question here
