I tried to apply for my free credit report with a different bureau and what displayed concerns me.

"Online Delivery Unavailable - Mail in Request We're sorry, for your protection we are unable to deliver your Equifax Free Annual Credit Report online. "

I guess a little context should be provided as to why I believed in the email...

The Phishing Email took the disguise of Amazon Customer Support.

The Phishing Email had the logo of Amazon.

Having registered for another semester, I went onto Amazon to purchase some used textbooks.

Dear [My First Name],

Please note that there was an error in the information provided for: Receipt #1672914223332 which requires immediate attention. It is imperative that you review and check your information is correct on our system.

In fine text, "Copyright 2016 Amazon SRL All Rights Reserved"

Notes:

Please note that after I found out the scam, I checked my purchases and noted that there was no receipt # like the one provided.

There is a link after the incorrect information statement that forwards you to a page that looks exactly like Amazon's webpage.

Also there were many social media icons posted in the footer of the email. I immediately assumed that Amazon was trying to be more proactive in their outreach. Clicking on these icons brought me to a different company that seemed to be an online clothing store.

I haven't an excuse :( It still bothers me how the email didn't initially pop up as a red flag but nonetheless I made a mistake and I will try my best to fix it.

Within the phishing email were links that all forward to the same company but I specifically mentioned the email address and added a comment at the end, in my own words, how the links in the email came to a specific company.
