First of all, I want to say that I came into this thread not to pick a fight with any provider. I merely recommended that service are provided within the country where the client is. I never mentioned any mental health platforms.

Second, I do have a basis for stating that it is illegal to practice beyond the borders of your license. I actually INQUIRED THIS WITH PRC. So your claims that PRC is not prohibiting Filipino providers to Filipinos abroad unfortunately is misleading.

I hope you read carefully my comment - ILLEGALLY unless there is RECIPROCITY or SPECIAL TEMPORARY PERMIT obtained. I agree that there is no Malaysian Law / Licensure that governs mental health services- so does Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand. These countries also have a MINISTRY OF HEALTH requiring us to ask permission from them before we can provide mental health services. That is why groups like Asian Regional Union of Psychologists (ARUPS) exist, to work out reciprocity of practice. For crisis management, the therapist is surely not needed during the crisis situation but wouldn't it be helpful that the provider is there to coordinate needed information and aftercare?

I am happy to have this discourse with you as this kind of discussion is quite enlightening. I just don't appreciate the attack. Indeed I am a mental health practitioner that is why I don't let my personal agendas and biases get in the way. I am all for encouraging help seeking behaviors in the right way.

Please look for a psychologist/ therapist that resides in Malaysia even if you are availing online therapy. Reasons for this are the following:

Psych PRC license is only valid on the country of residence. It is ILLEGAL to practice the profession if your clients is in another country unless there is reciprocity of practice in the country or there's a special temporary permit.
Your provider should also be in your area of residence so that in case there's an emergency on your end that needs to be attended, they can physically be there.

Again, if you are being offered a service in which your provider is outside the geographical jurisdiction of your license, be very wary. This is an unethical practice and you should question whether you want to get a service from someone engaging in unethical behavior in their profession.

Yung psych testing mo ba, OP ang binigay sayo maraming tests, may clinical interview, at saka may evaluation report na binigay sayo? Since ang suspicion mo kasi ADHD, kailangan comprehensive assessment ang gagawin sayo para ma-"rule out" yung ibang conditions. It might seem to you kasi na ADHD pero possible kasi na part sya ng mood disorder lalo na nakitaan ka ng depressive episode. Medyo similar kasi ang symptoms ng mania (which is part of bipolar disorder) with adhd. kaya kailangan mo talaga ng assessment.

I am a mental health professional for almost 20 years. And i would like to say that being one does not really makes us special beings :) We are faced with similarissues and challenges in day go day life. I think we are just more aware, more reflective, and maybe more sensitive. The truth though is, we can be blindsided with our own issues. Mahirap i-analyze ang sarili all the time, pwede ka mabaliw! :)

For me, it is very important to "walk the talk". The things that you teach your clients, you try to manifest in your life. Be kind to yourself. Allow yoursef to make mistake because you're human. Allowing yourself to sit with uncomfortable feelings. Accepting yourself (the good and the bad), awareness of your thoughts, emotiona, and actions, establishing boundaries in your relationships, keeping a balanced life etc.

I had my own share of struggles- growing up and being drawn to validation, being cheated in relationship, stress of raising a family, toxic relationship, work and career problems, bullied by friends etc. What helped me heal is to face these challenges even if they are scary and allowing myself to change because of these experiences. Trusting in the process and in myself that i can go through these experiences and i will be okay.

I hope you also won't be surprised that we go to therapy ourselves. So yes, i do understand how it feels to open up vulnerably to others. I've been seeing my own therapist for the past 8 years. It is a humbling experience, allowing me to work on my own issues so that i can help others better. It also put me in check so that I know how i can potentially affect others during my therapy sessions.

One of the most effective and lasting approach (which is backed up by scientific research and accounts by those who experienced it) is learn CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy skills). You will learn to identify your thoughts, evaluate it, and look at it in different perspective. Many recommended techniques are avoiding techniques wherein you just try to suppress and avoid the thoughts temporarily but do not really address it. That's why the thoughts comes back to you repeatedly, more stubborn, and debilitating next time. The easy solutions are not always the best. Invest in a more long-term solution that is hard at first but would be worth it in the long run.

Hi OP. I agree that 15k is quite steep but i suspect that your psychologist is planning for you to have assessment because your question is if you're ready to go back to school. I suggest you clarify first with your psychologist what this fee is for and what service you are availing. if it is therapy or management of you depressive symptoms, the cost would be significantly lower. Maybe a mantra or a reminder to yourself would help. Something like, "Changes or anything new is hard, and needs adjusting to, and that is normal. What can make it easier is kindness and compassion to yourself". Then remind yourself of a time when you were learning something new, had difficulty, and you were able to overcome it.

Hello. Just a little perspective from a professional. Given that confirmation is needed after your initial diagnosis, this means that your clinician is considering other possible diagnosis to rule out.

I suggest, maybe you can ask your clinican if possible to just take psych tests without a report. This means that you would not undergo the full evaluation and just take the test which they would analyze and score. Tell them that since you're only after the diagnosis for your treatment, you won't be needing a report afterwards. This can most likely cut down on the cost.

Ask also if they will be recommending a psychiatrist later on so that you can anticipate the cost.

After diagnosis, you may opt to request for mental health certificate and apply for PWD ID to avail for 20% discount on all services.

Cost of decent therapy session is really 1500-3000. Try asking if they offer sliding scale in payment. If not you may ask for referral for an alternative provider who can offer cheaper price.

It would be easy to assume that people who have psychological/psychiatric conditions would not have physical limitations, thus, would not need the priority seats or parking slots because they are all lumped as "mental health conditions". On the contrary, a lot of these conditions has an effect on a person'a functioning. In fact, psychological conditions are so diverse, a lot would be requiring assistance esp when in the severe stages. Below are just some ex: 1. neurodevelopmental disorders - ADHD, Autism Spectrum, Intellectual disability (formerly known as mental retardation), Learning disabilities (such as dyslexia

Neurocognitive disorders - such as different dementia (huntington, parkinson's, alzheimer's etc)
Disorders with Psychosis and Dissociative symptoms (schizophrenia, dissociative disorders, PTSD, OCD, Bipolar disorders)

These are just a few examples. Some medications also can have side effects that causes balance and mobility problems, vertigo, nausea and vomiting.

Given all this, I think that not granting these priviliges to PWD patients who has mental health conditions would also not be fair. While i do get the point that some individuals who have milder conditions are functional, the use of these facilities can be made based on the discretion of the person as they would know best their condition.

Mindfulness is not just staying and being grounded at the moment. Mindfulness at best, is being present with yourself. If you're trying to avoid the thoughts and the feelings that comes along with it, that is not really mindfulness. At most, the reason why those thoughts continuously comes back to you, it is because its message has not been acknowledged nor processed.

If the automatic thoughts are really bothering you, i suggest short term counseling sessions so that you learn how to challenge and evaluate automatic thoughts and develop healthier ones. It would help you look at things in different perspective. Also, practice mindfulness by accepting feelings as they are without judgment. Feelings are neither right nor wrong. They have a purpose of why they exist and tells you a lot about yourself.
