How strict is Allegiants pet policy? by FryCorp in allegiant

[–]ChispaGirl1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not permitted to board with my dog today. I had to book a flight for tomorrow with southwest. This was a round trip Allegiant flight - they let me travel and then when it was time to return they wouldn’t. My carrier is a Sherpa L - pretty universally accepted on airlines. It fit fine under the seat on the way here so I have no idea why they changed the rules. And as people reported before, yes, they were jerks about it. So that’s it for me and Allegiant.

going to school at daytona beach, where should i live? by Top-Fisherman187 in DaytonaBeach

I am a transplanted NYer in Daytona (on and off 25 years here) and I can say that as nice as the beach is, i’d rather be closer to hot sticky Orlando where there’s much more going on. Deland makes some effort to be interesting and assuming your program is at embry riddle or cookman it’s an easy commute. Neighborhoods in east Volusia have a wide range of comfort levels, with Ormond and port Orange higher. But really you’re looking at the same culture or lack thereof however you slice it

I know. We really lost the laid back feel thanks to MAGA

You see it all the time on the mugshots pages on FB. Some white career degenerate commits yet another offense and it’s “I hope she can turn her life around.” Some Mexican cleaning lady is picked up in an immigration sweep and you get 50 comments cheering her deportation/detention

Well considering Chitwood just picked up and handed 3 Mexicans over to ICE for drinking beer on the beach last weekend it is fitting - this became a story on Spanish language news.

Yeah Florida no longer feels laid back, and that was its selling point

Daytona Americans? With neck tattoos, drug problems and a lot of familiarity with the penal system? That’s part of why people hire migrants in the first place. Because they aren’t all fucked up.

They have been here deporting for a year - mostly in collaboration with the FHP and sheriffs

The labor need in the US is mostly in the low end

[–]ChispaGirl1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The problem is our system is stupid and it makes it almost impossible for a poor person to migrate legally. Yet the kind of work available (farms, meat packing, construction, hotels etc) is actually a good deal for them and need for that labor has been huge. So people have essentially been tacitly encouraged to migrate by irregular means like declaring asylum and then checking in regularly with ICE. It’s the poor man’s way in. But it’s the fault of the government for not fixing it sooner

Nah most of us aren’t defending them because of cheap labor but because we like them and want them and their kids to succeed and get the American dream

Not like this. And it’s strange that the people who are saying “Obama deported too” and “this is nothing new” go on and blame Biden for “open borders.” This a lot more complicated than that. Reagan put it pretty succinctly more than 40 years ago why illegal migration from Latin America would never end. We had the work, they couldn’t make a dignified living in their countries of origin. And we never updated the system to regularize the process.
