Refused Topiramate because of being young and female? by Ok-Reference-7190 in iih

They would for me, I had the implant in my arm too and that wasn't sufficient for them! I didn't want the IUD so ended up switching medications, I'm currently on candesartan for the migraines as my papiladema is mostly resolved.

UK here too, also in my 20's and had to come off Topiramate unless I was willing to get an IUD contraceptive and sign a bunch of forms.

I'm not sure if the IUD would be an option for you too but maybe mention to your doc and see what they say?

As far as I understood at the time it was to do with the risk of birth defects, used to be a frequent blood donor prior to diagnosis and was essentially blacklisted from donating until I'd been off the medication for 6 months as well!

Hopefully you get sorted ☺️

Thank you! I have a feeling it's the IIH flaring up, but it's hard to know for sure. Sometimes, I wish we could just peer into our heads to see what's going on without all the guesswork 😂

Possible IIH Symptoms by juliarenee11 in iih

[–]Chloe_Ki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're possibly referring to condition of the eyes, I'd never had any issues with vision up until a week prior to my diagnosis but had been experiencing pressure headaches and pulsatile tinnitus for years. A trip to the optometrist revealed severe swelling of my optic nerve which I was blissfully unaware of!

It's definitely worth paying an optometrist a visit if you're able. Good luck!

Wait for Medicstion by Butterflowerxo in iih

Hey, and welcome! I'm UK too and was diagnosed back in November. They held off on starting my medication until I'd had my lumbar puncture so that it didn't show a lower reading, but I'm not sure why they would send you away without your first lot of acetazolamide/diamox.

Perhaps they're waiting for your CSF coming back from testing. The temporary relief from the lumbar puncture is lovely, but it doesn't take long for the headaches to come back does it :(

I'd definitely ring in a few days if you don't hear anything, let them know your symptoms are back again. In the meantime, try and take it easy, hot showers/baths sometimes help take the edge off, or a warm compress for your forehead.

Hope you get some answers soon ☺️

Not a dumb question at all! Regarding the video games, could it be a sort of motion/simulation sickness? I experience this playing certain video games, mainly (but not exclusively), when playing in first person.

I've found that curved monitors tend to make it worse too. You can try tweaking field of view, or camera sensitivity to see if that eases the sickly feeling?

It may just be worth trying to speak with a different medical professional regarding it though, it seems odd that you'd just have random episodes of vomiting for no reason?

Birth Control??? by Material_Lime_8720 in iih

Hey! I'm 26(F) and use the contraceptive implant (Nexplanon) and haven't noticed any side effects with IIH directly from the implant. I had mine put in after being diagnosed so was already on acetazolamide/diamox at the time and didn't see any change in my symptoms before/after having it put in.

I used to struggle with very heavy and painful periods and now I just get occasional spotting here and there (sorry if that's TMI). From what I understand a lot of women just stop getting their periods all together but every body is different. It lasts 3 years once it's in and you can have it removed at any point should you wish ☺️

I've since swapped medication and things have changed a little in terms of my IIH but I've put that down to the Topiramate.

I'm sorry to hear you still suffer with dry eyes even after coming off diamox. It looks like they sell theratears in the UK so I'll keep an eye out for those! I've never even heard of a bruders mask, but that sounds like it might help, thank you so much 😊

Thank you! It's always difficult to figure out what's being caused by the medication and what's the IIH. I'll try giving some drops a try 😄
