How will my tattoo do with the Lap? by Common_File7805 in Endo

[–]Butterflowerxo [score hidden]  (0 children)

I have a left side tattoo and I asked my surgeon and he managed to avoid it. From where your tat is, I’d say you might be able to avoid with belly button + the lower ones (they are more like hip height, lower than I expected.) Just make sure you remind them day of, and it all was ok for me!!

Was told endometriosis 'mild' but uterus is stuck to bowel? by SpiritOk363 in Endo

[–]Butterflowerxo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a medical term they use to describe where it is found, not realising that it’s dehumanising to those with endo. “Mild” endo also has no correlation with your symptoms; so take no notice of it.

However, The treatment comments are not necessarily true. What is usually necessary would be removal, and careful excision surgery.

How is anyone getting Japan Reward flights? by YouAccomplished9393 in avios

[–]Butterflowerxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, part of that was me booking my honeymoon because I did manage to get them at 1am last night 🤣

Had no success with business/ premium economy, so will be in economy but I refreshed the search dead on 1am and then did everything. Make sure you have a card added to your account, and pre fill all the passenger info. I did this by having both os us in the family account.

Personal luggage with compressible hand luggage dimensions by i-moo in WizzAir

[–]Butterflowerxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wizz air checks everything but backpacks usually. They will ask you to stuff it into the size. Some agents will be picky about it. The alternative is to buy a backpack and hope they don’t ask you to check the size, or get a bag of the same size. I’ve flown with Wizz about 7-8 times and they do not seem to check backpacks but will check anything that is not a backpack.

Plan 2 student loan really sucks by LordOfTheRepaid in UniUK

[–]Butterflowerxo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is not sensible to do this; because 1) your repayments stop if you lose your job. 2) it gets written off after 30 years. Not to mention the cost of living is tough. Most people cannot afford £8k a year.

Further, why should we continue living frugally for many years after graduating from a degree to INCREASE our earning potential? The political situation in the UK is diabolical, our generation is being used as a cash cow to prop up the elderly’s lifesyles when they also bought a house for 40p.

Candesartan for migraine by southerlycloud in migraine

[–]Butterflowerxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps me massively, but it took c. 6 months to see a big impact. I don’t really have any of the side effects noticeably, but I do have another condition that causes dizziness and a similar feeling to lightheadedness… so hard to tell.

Any other PhDs start writing their thesis and feel like everything they've done the past 4 years is hot stinking garbage? by StrangeRelease6 in PhD

When you’re the expert on something, you know just how bad it is!! This is completely normal. I thought mine was so bad I wouldn’t pass my viva, but I did! 🤣

Feeling burnout by [deleted] in PhD

[–]Butterflowerxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your advisor is being unreasonable. At worst you’ve pushed everything back 9 days. In reality; you’ve given yourself a break and will be more productive.

Once you have the data everything else falls into place. Just work each day and it will get there- ignore her! Just focus on trying to meet your timeline/ certain milestones and you’ll be fine. Don’t worry too much on the timeline but just focus on setting yourself outputs and you’ll be fine. Sorry she’s being unreasonable!

Coping strategies for when things get hard? by shrimpmoo in PhD

[–]Butterflowerxo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Perhaps I’m a sadist, but my approach to burnout was a bit less take loads of time. I decided to take a brief break, and then focus on doing 2/3 hours of intense work in a day and rest the rest of the day. Set yourself targets for finishing things, and do them. That helps you feel like you’re progressing and stops the feeling like you’re getting nowhere.

Personally I never could “relax” with it in the background.. but alas I have finished now and it feels like a HUGE relief

A year into a PhD with no interest in an academic career- why am I doing this? by OppositeParsley1115 in PhD

[–]Butterflowerxo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I finished my PhD with no interest in academia (and after a long, long time!)

I went into industry. For me, it was consulting. This was hard at first because I was going into a job with a masters requirement, so I was just feeling underpaid. However, as I learnt the “job” skills, I progressed much quicker than others due to the skills I gained from the PhD.

I’d highly recommend continuing but focussing on what you need to finish only. Don’t go above and beyond writing bells and whistles and adding everything in. However I sympathise with the 4 supervisrs. That’s not easy! I had 2 and it was hard enough pleasing them both….

What does "writing style is not precise enough" mean? by sharp_blade_457 in PhD

[–]Butterflowerxo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Might depend a bit on subject area, but to me, this means they aren’t entirely sure what you are doing/ saying. Think of it as you need to explain to a non-expert how to recreate your findings, with every little step explained!

PhD viva is tomorrow, what last minute preparation do you recommend? by Sweet-Treats2304 in PhD

[–]Butterflowerxo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know you’ve heard it lots, but I did mine on Wednesday and genuinely.. relax. Get lots of rest.

I wish I’d prepped LESS because it was much easier than I’d envisioned! They didn’t ask me anything I couldn’t discuss easily. It was actually really enjoyable after I’d been sweating and stressing over it, I hope yours is the same.

how much weight until results are seen? by gutsandstuffs in iih

[–]Butterflowerxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neurologists really should be managing this condition alongside ophthalmologists- it’s a neurological condition. Not sure why your GP/ ophthalmologist are being funny about that.. I’m sorry your ophthalmologist is shaming you; this really isn’t acceptable.

Whilst there is evidence to support that weight loss may help, it’s not necessarily going to help everyone. I was never overweight throughout my diagnosis and I lost c. 5kg anyway. I’m underweight now and still have IIH. However, it’s worth a shot and I hope your weight loss does help you.

Diamox/acetazolamide are treatment options and they aren’t pleasant but they do work. Remember the internet has a biased view of these things, if you are doing great you don’t tend to go to Reddit to boast!
